Dream Job Ready Episode 10: Ahron Young (CEO & Founder of the new and exciting broadcast media platform, Ticker).

Ahron Young is an award winning journalist and news anchor, who has worked in television, newspapers, radio and web news across the world.

He knew at an early age that he wanted to work in media. As a young teenager he was excited by TV news and journalism, and looking back now can see that he can see that he always had a entrepreneurial spirit too.

After a few bouts of media work experience while he was still at school, Ahron went on to cut his teeth in radio, spending 2 years with Melbourne’s leading news talkback station, 3AW, where he reported on state politics, Melbourne’s famed Underworld and global stories such as the death of Pope John Paul (the second) and the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Always ready for his next opportunity, Ahron then spent a year living in Moscow reporting and broadcasting news for Russia Today.

In this interview, we talk a lot about being opportunistic and staying agile in your career, and Ahron shares great advice for would-be journalists, about change, adaption and mobility in the media industry.

Returning from Russia to Australia 2006, he landed a dream job with Australian news channel SKY NEWS. He’d spend 12 years with the network, as Melbourne Bureau Chief and lead News Anchor - covering major events in Victoria, Australia and around the world.

Ahron needed a change in 2019 and come August, Ticker was born...

We discuss the company and its mission at length, including how he plans to staff the business as it grows, the news content that’s in demand, and how up-coming journalists and reporters can connect with him about future opportunities with the business. Ahron explains how he wants Ticker to be the "Netflix of News".

He is making a point of fostering a great company culture at Ticker, where everyone’s opinions are heard, so this business is one to watch in 2020 and beyond.

There’s a lot of honesty and sincere advice in this interview, and Ahron’s career has been built on dream job ready moments. Awesome career stories, job tips and career development advice if you're looking to work in media.
