Title: The Art of Psychological Warfare Subtitle: How to Skillfully Influence People Undetected and How to Mentally Subdue Your Enemies in Stealth Mode Author: Michael T. Stevens Narrator: Jim D. Johnston Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 50 mins Language: English Release date: 04-07-16 Publisher: Make Profits Easy LLC Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 161 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: Do you feel like other people always get the best of you? Do you wish you were more assertive in dealing with others? Have you ever felt bullied or dismissed by others? Want to get some payback? Then you're ready to take psychological warfare seriously. You'll never have a mere conversation again after putting our tricks into practice. This book teaches you personal interaction on a psychological level. It runs from trivial tricks like getting people to like and respect you more, to tactical life skills like making a convincing argument or persuading somebody to do you a large favor. In case you're up for some heavier artillery, it also teaches you how to play manipulative tricks on people by exploiting arcane quirks in the human mind, to psychological combat maneuvers practiced by law enforcement and the military. Learn from psychology experts and military black-ops experiments alike, as we explore the maze of the human mind and discover some access panels that weren't meant to be discovered. If you don't want to use it offensively, you can also use it as a defense against the con artists and sociopaths who try to pull one over on you - perhaps you'll even see your relationship in a new way. It's time you asserted yourself! Get in touch with your inner Jedi and learn a few mind tricks of your own. If you even use it to argue your way out of one traffic ticket, this book has paid for itself right there. Members Reviews: Not enough techniques to learn enough It's a fun listen, great story telling, but not one that really drills in the possible, useful techniques to the point that you are bound to remember them and actually find a great way of using them Lacking in depth It was very short and only covered basic techniques and not even well. Your money is better spent elsewhere. Handy, basic and perhaps a little interesting A nice introduction but I think you need to do further study to make this subject helpful. Wish it was longer! Good topics and good examples. I'd like to see an expanded version, but still very much recommend this book. I can hardly listen to this What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? A new reader and more useful content. Would you ever listen to anything by Michael T. Stevens again? Not likely Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim D. Johnston? Really anybody. Any additional comments? Unlistenable after about a half hour. Dry, mostly useless information that doesn't actually teach you the art of persuasion and the S whistle drove me crazy.

Members Reviews: started slow but goog if you want the what and how-to.. skip the useless preview and jump for many pages of notetaking. very usefull. got additional perspectives that are not in other reads Disappointing book it did not meet my expectations This book fell way short on my expectations for critical thinking if youre looking for practical guidance exercises to develop critical thinking this is not the book for you if youre looking for a redundant statement of benefits for critical thinking send this book is for you overall again in short disappointed not a book I would recommend anyone A good book on critical thinking stratigies I enjoyed reading/listening to this book, great examples on how to apply the suggested strategies, however a companion exercise file to test one's understanding of the strategies would add more value. I found myself wanting to take notes, but that would require "pause, recall what was recommended" then continue. Suggestions made are excellent, but if you really want to sharpen your critical thinking, I would suggest purchasing a hard copy or better still, a Kindle ebook so you can highlight and take notes to review later as you practice the critical thinking recommendations. not a practical book this book covers the 'whats' but hardly any 'hows'. does not cover the thinking skills

Subtitle: A Teen Survival Guide, Volume 1 Author: Natasha Daniels LCSW Narrator: Natasha Daniels Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 03-10-17 Publisher: Natasha Daniels Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 5 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: Is your anxiety kicking your teen's butt? Are they tired of boring, long self-help books that do anything but help? Are they annoyed by suggestions that show the author doesn't really get anxiety? I get it. I also get anxiety. I have lived it and so have the thousands of kids I have helped in my therapy practice. Until you have lived it, you will never understand anxiety's insidious moves. Anxiety Sucks! is short and to the point. You are welcome. Have them listen to it. Practice it. Repeat. Kids don't want long, boring books on anxiety. In my practice parents will often ask for book suggestions. I provide them. They buy them. The kids never listen to them. Trust me, I know. I ask the kids. I finally decided to write my own book that is short, to the point and offers a death blow to the anxiety dictator living in their head. A book I know kids will be able to get through in one or two sittings. A book that will teach kids how their little dictator rules their mind and tricks them into making their anxiety grow. And finally, a book that will help them develop mad skills to counterattack their dictator and show him who is boss. Every kid being bullied by anxiety should be armed with the skills this book provides. Every parent raising an anxious kid should listen to this and gain insight into what their kids are going through each day. Members Reviews: It is a good book, so I hope she will one day ... This book is written for teens. My teen will not read it. It is a good book, so I hope she will one day decide itâs worth her time. It is a quick read and easy to understand for those not saavy within the mental ... As a therapist who works solely with teens, I found this book to be a very helpful resource. I've had parents ask for recommendations on books that they can read and books for their teen and this book is top of the list. It is a quick read and easy to understand for those not saavy within the mental health realm. I have read the book first before I give to ... I have read the book first before I give to my daughter. I must say, eye opening to realize we probably all have some from of an anxiety and the book helps to compartmentalize to understand. Very good book. This is a great read. It's quick, easy and we'll written making you want to finish it. There is a lot of good info. A read for every teen and some adult! You can finally stop fear from being your boss and put an end to your lifelong social suckage. Have you spent your life shrinking from opportunities you were dying to seize but feel "that's just who I am"? Well, screw that! You actually can change, and it doesn't take exceptional intelligence or a therapist who's looking forward to finally buying Aruba after decades of listening to you yammer on. Transforming yourself takes revolutionary science-help from Amy Alkon, who has spent the past 20 years translating cutting-edge behavioral science into highly practical advice in her award-winning syndicated column. In Unf--kology, Alkon pulls together findings from neuroscience, behavioral science, evolutionary psychology, and clinical psychology. She explains everything in language you won't need a psych prof on speed-dial to understand - and with the biting dark humor that made Good Manners for Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck such a great listen. She debunks widely-accepted but scientifically unsupported notions about self-esteem, shame, willpower, and more and demonstrates that: Follow Amy Alkon's groundbreaking advice in Unf--kology, and eventually, you'll no longer need to act like the new you; you'll become the new you. And how totally f--king cool is that? Members Reviews: Very enlightening and encouraging! This audiobook gave me a lot to think about and left me feeling overall better about myself and hopeful that I can make improvements in the way I feel and act. If I had been reading it, there are parts I would have wanted to re- read, especially from chapter 15 to the end. So, Im planning to listen a second time to the last few chapters. For me the solutions presented made it an especially worthwhile presentation. I didnt agree with every singe point and suggestion made but there were plenty of great take aways for me. I enjoyed the authors use of her personal experiences and examples. She also had a pleasant voice, which I always find helpful in audiobooks.

Title: Silently Seduced, Revised & Updated Subtitle: When Parents Make Their Children Partners Author: Kenneth Adams Narrator: Craig Jessen Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 33 mins Language: English Release date: 03-25-13 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 66 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: When a parent singles out a child for special privileges and attention, that child is often unaware that the relationship is unhealthy - even incestuous. As adults, these children struggle to feel validated, because while they have not been directly abused, they feel a sense of violation and crossed boundaries - usually done in the name of 'love' and 'caring'. The parent's love feels more confining than freeing, more demanding than giving, more intrusive than nurturing. Yet these children suffer from what psychologist Kenneth Adams calls The Silent Seduction - because there is nothing loving or caring about a close parent-child relationship that services the needs of the parent rather than the child. In this revised and updated 20th anniversary edition of his groundbreaking book Silently Seduced, Dr. Adams explains how 'feeling close', especially with the opposite-sex parent, is not the source of comfort the image suggests, especially when that child is cheated out of a childhood by being a parent's surrogate partner. He offers a framework to understand this covert incest and its effect on sexuality, intimacy, and relationships, and how victims can begin the process of recovery. Members Reviews: Fairly good I could have done without the word "Daddy" being repeated in a childlike voice over and over. However, it validates much of what an unhealthy emotional relationship can do to one's behaviour and thought patterns. Great book on a delicate subject. Honestly the narrator made it slightly creepy, but that's my own personal preference. The book is expertly written and helps the reader understand why they or their spouse acts a certain way and gives steps on how to move forward. It's a difficult subject and healing process, but this book definitely helps. Amazing!!! I wish I would have read it years ago. This is the start to healing an 18 year cycle of hurt with a man I loved, but he could not properly love me back or commit! Now I finally understand why he could never commit to me. I am so thankful for this information! I am happy to finally have the root, but sadden at what has happened to this man that I genuinely love. What about the lesbians? While I know it's impossible for the author to write about every possible scenario of covert incest in a single book, I was a little disappointed that he didn't talk about the consequences of it for lesbians and bi women. Otherwise, great resource. Eye opening This book helped me see a lot about my past and present. I was able to identify a great deal about myself to better heal today.

Title: Trapped in the Mirror Subtitle: Adult Children of Narcissists in Their Struggle for Self Author: Elan Golomb Narrator: Angela Brazil Format: Unabridged Length: 11 hrs and 1 min Language: English Release date: 06-21-16 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 41 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: The difficulties experienced by adult children of narcissists can manifest themselves in many ways - for example, physical self-loathing that takes the form of overeating, anorexia, or bulimia; a self-destructive streak that causes poor job performance and rocky personal relationships; or a struggle with the self that is perpetuated in the adult's interaction with his or her own children. These dilemmas are both common and correctable, Elan Golomb tells us. With an empathic blend of scholarship and case studies, along with her own personal narrative of her fight for self, Dr. Golomb plumbs the depths of this problem, revealing its mysterious hold on the affairs of otherwise bright, aware, motivated, and worthy people. Trapped in the Mirror explores: Members Reviews: Convoluted I've read several books on this topic but this one was not as helpful as I'd hoped. The author makes some great points but they are hidden in long meandering narratives. The book is full of weird stories and examples that I don't think most people can relate to. The Narcissistic Family is a better book on this topic. Dont let the fact that it says its written for clinicians scare you away, it's very accessible for those of us interested in learning more about our families of origin and their dysfunction. Great resource Initially the narration took some getting used to... But once I was into the rhythm of the narrator, the content delivered was useful in many ways. There are certain instances where I did not agree with some of the generalizations made by the author, but there was also a balance of self awareness In the writer's approach, expressed as both experienced and fallible. The book includes Many hard stories from hard childhoods, and a comprehensive takeaway on how to approach recovering from narcissistic abuse. I recommend this book for anyone trying to break loose from dysfunctional relationships of any kind, and to those seeking external resources and insights into this world of narcissism and the tools to escape from a distorted reality. Great book! I really, really enjoyed this book. Very eye opening. My one and only gripe would be that I wish it gave a little more insight into how to fix, or change, the traits/feelings/etc that we have due to our narcissistic parents. She makes suggestions here and there, but being more straight forward would be helpful. Overall great book though. Worth reading! Groundbreaking book! Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? I would recommend this book because of the excellent experience and insights of the author. It is an excellent look into the minds and hearts of the children of narcissists. What does Angela Brazil bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book? I love audio books in general because of my busy life. Angela's reading style is unique and I can understand how some might find it difficult but I did not. Angela's diction is excellent and her style of reading helped keep me focused on the content of the book. It helped me think through the word she was saying so that I can integrate the concepts into my life. Any additional comments? I'm listening to it a second time already after just finishing it.

Title: The Myths of Happiness Subtitle: What Should Make You Happy, but Doesn't, What Shouldn't Make You Happy, but Does Author: Sonja Lyubomirsky Narrator: Kathy Keane Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 33 mins Language: English Release date: 01-04-13 Publisher: Penguin Audio Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 94 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: Happiness expert Sonja Lyubomirskys research-based lessons in how to find opportunity in lifes thorniest moments. In The Myths of Happiness, Sonja Lyubomirsky isolates the major turning points of adult life, looking to both achievements (marriage, children, professional satisfaction, wealth) and failures (singlehood, divorce, financial ruin, illness) to reveal that our misconceptions about the impact of such events is perhaps the greatest threat to our long-term well-being. Lyubomirsky argues that we have been given false promises - myths that assure us that lifelong happiness will be attained once we hit the culturally confirmed markers of adult success. This restricted view of happiness works to discourage us from recognizing the upside of any negative life turn and blocks us from recognizing our own growth potential. Our outsized expectations transform natural rites of passage into emotional land mines and steer us to make toxic decisions, as The Myths of Happiness reveals. Because we expect the best (or the worst) from life's turning points, we shortsightedly place too much weight on our initial emotional responses. The Myths of Happiness empowers listeners to look beyond their first response, sharing scientific evidence that often it is our mindset - not our circumstances - that matters. Central to these findings is the notion of hedonic adaptation, the fact that people are far more adaptable than they think. Even after a major life change - good or bad - we tend to return to our initial happiness level, forgetting what once made us elated or why we felt that life was so unbearable. The Myths of Happiness offers the perspective we need to make wiser choices, sharing how to slow the effects of this adaptation after a positive turn and find the way forward in a time of darkness. In The Myths of Happiness, Sonja Lyubomirsky turns an empirical eye to the biggest, messiest moments, providing listeners with the clear-eyed vision they need to build the healthiest, most satisfying life. A corrective course on happiness and a call to regard life's twists and turns with a more open mind, The Myths of Happiness shares practical lessons with life-changing potential. Members Reviews: A different take on a timeless subject Definitely worth a listen. As a self-help book junkie, I listen quite frequently to books in this vein. This one manages to break the mold, and provides a lot of straightforward advice that I hadn't encountered in the dozens of other books on the subject. Insightful, no-nonsense, and surprising at times, it's far more useful than the others with the inevitable "start a gratitude journal/do something once a day that scares you" tumblr-meme level advice. If you're looking for something more analytical regarding how life-contentment works, this is a great one to pick up. Completely Mind Blowing I love the contents of the book so much I think it should be required for every single person on the planet to read. Please listen to it everybody. You'll be so much happier than you think you could ever be! Couldn't Get into This Tried reading this with a book club and we all disliked it. It made us feel bad about ourselves and so we stopped reading it.
