Subtitle: A Teen Survival Guide, Volume 1 Author: Natasha Daniels LCSW Narrator: Natasha Daniels Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 03-10-17 Publisher: Natasha Daniels Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 5 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: Is your anxiety kicking your teen's butt? Are they tired of boring, long self-help books that do anything but help? Are they annoyed by suggestions that show the author doesn't really get anxiety? I get it. I also get anxiety. I have lived it and so have the thousands of kids I have helped in my therapy practice. Until you have lived it, you will never understand anxiety's insidious moves. Anxiety Sucks! is short and to the point. You are welcome. Have them listen to it. Practice it. Repeat. Kids don't want long, boring books on anxiety. In my practice parents will often ask for book suggestions. I provide them. They buy them. The kids never listen to them. Trust me, I know. I ask the kids. I finally decided to write my own book that is short, to the point and offers a death blow to the anxiety dictator living in their head. A book I know kids will be able to get through in one or two sittings. A book that will teach kids how their little dictator rules their mind and tricks them into making their anxiety grow. And finally, a book that will help them develop mad skills to counterattack their dictator and show him who is boss. Every kid being bullied by anxiety should be armed with the skills this book provides. Every parent raising an anxious kid should listen to this and gain insight into what their kids are going through each day. Members Reviews: It is a good book, so I hope she will one day ... Title: Bones Would Rain from the Sky Subtitle: Deepening Our Relationships with Dogs Author: Suzanne Clothier Narrator: Pam Ward Format: Unabridged Length: 13 hrs and 45 mins Language: English Release date: 02-21-17 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 54 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: In Bones Would Rain from the Sky, Suzanne Clothier takes a radical new direction in understanding our life with dogs...and our mutual love. Drawing on a lifetime of experience with dogs, this nationally renowned dog trainer brings us astonishing new lessons about our animals - and ourselves. Gently, with intelligence, humor, and unfailing patience, Suzanne Clothier guides us to truly comprehend another creature's mind and heart. You will discover how our dogs see the world from their uniquely canine perspective, how we can meet their deep need for leadership without using force or coercion, and how the "laws" of canine culture often put our dogs at odds with us and our very human world. Clothier's unparalleled insights into aggression in dogs can help prevent a tragedy, including the unnecessary destruction of a pet. As in no other "dog book" or training manual, in Bones Would Rain from the Sky an extraordinary woman shows us how to find a deep connection with another being and to receive an incomparable gift: a profound, lifelong relationship with the dog you love. Members Reviews: Good insight, unnecessarily slow This book was a slog to get through and not because it had poor ideas. On the contrary Clothier has excellent insight into relationships with dogs and has true and helpful wisdom to share here, but she makes a point, then makes it again, then gives an example, then shoehorns in a few quotations, then adds some philosophy, then makes the point again until I was forced to switch to text and do some skimming . Add to this a slow speaking, long pausing, overly dramatic (for my taste) narrator and you have the aforementioned slog. Great info but to long There was some really really good information in this book unfortunately I just kind a got lost in the prose at times.... Philosophy, and a small amount about dogs I had read the reviews, and had my brain inclined toward a specific, familiar type of book. WRONG!! Every few pages there is something of use relating toward the care and/ or training of canines.Other than that, its philosophy, ethics, t Best Philosophy of Dog Training Book! Suzanne Clothier describes as no other author has, what training is like from the dog's perspective. If you have ever hated doing to your dog what dog trainers have told you that you HAD TO DO, this book is for you. Suzanne has seen the world from the dog's perspective since she was a small child. This is not a HOW TO BOOK, but rather a philosophy of training and behavior modification book. Once you read this, you will only seek out force-free, aversive-free, professional trainers such as those who belong to PPG, APDT, CCPDT, KPA, etc. Must read for all dog owners. Incredible story telling from the wise Suzanne Clothier who has always been ahead of her time. This book will help you better understand your dog so you will innately know the best approach for Training. We spend so much time with our dogs who give us so much, why not take the time to get to know these selfless animals a bit better from a compassionate and expert perspective. Thank you Suzanne for everything you do and have done for dogs. - Michelle Oberg

Feeling Good Audiobook by David D. Burns

Title: Feeling Good Subtitle: The New Mood Therapy Author: David D. Burns Narrator: George Newbern Format: Unabridged Length: 13 hrs and 20 mins Language: English Release date: 03-21-17 Publisher: HarperAudio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 262 votes Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind Publisher's Summary: The good news is that anxiety, guilt, pessimism, procrastination, low self-esteem, and other 'black holes' of depression can be cured without drugs. In Feeling Good, eminent psychiatrist David D. Burns, M.D. outlines the remarkable, scientifically proven techniques that will immediately lift your spirits and help you develop a positive outlook on life. Now, in this updated edition, Dr. Burns adds an all-new Consumer's Guide To Antidepressant Drugs, as well as a new introduction to help answer your questions about the many options available for treating depression. Please visit www.feelinggood.com to access supplemental materials, the Feeling Good Podcasts, the Feeling Good Blog, and more! PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your Library section along with the audio. Members Reviews: Definitely need the handbook that goes with it This book is legendary. And cognitive behavioral therapy, is legendary. The problem with the Book on audio is that you can't follow with more than half of the entire book. He keeps referring to pages in chapters that you don't have. Brilliant Would you listen to Feeling Good again? Why? Yes, life changing What did you like best about this story? It's ability to help you create your own "Matrix" What about George Newberns performance did you like? Pleasant voice, able to listen for long stretches. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? Many Any additional comments? Most other self-help books after this one are some form of a rehash of this book. I have always been a huge Anthony Robbins fan, and now I see from where much (not all) of his material comes. I found the presentation and supplemental PDF delivered the messages in a more digestible and applicable way than most other books and authors on the subject. Very helpful It helps to understand the basis of depression. It has personally helped me to challenge my thoughts. I used to believe that I had some kind of chemical imbalance but once I looked deeper I realized I was constantly having subconscious negative thoughts. I track my mood with the Joie app and have noticed that no other method of treatment has beaten the techniques in this book. Drugs didn't come close. I hope you get as much benefit as I did. Excellent book Excellent book, Do not buy the audible version, you will need the charts, tables, etc.. Great book for those dealing with depression! I highly recommend this book if you struggle with depression. It is very helpful. Note, though, it'll take some work on your part, but it's well worth it. Having read the Handbook first, and now having listened to this book, I actually recommend the Handbook version first. It forces you to do activities that will help you, whereas this book merely talks about it (in detail). I still liked this book, though, because it reminded me of everything I had done in the Handbook, which is about all I can do while I'm driving, anyhow. (Last I checked, the Handbook is not available in audio.) The reader of this audio book is excellent. He actually sounds engaged, as though he's Dr. Burns himself, giving you the advice right then and there. Kudos to him.
