In this episode I talk to Melissa Nath a nurse and fur mom to two great danes and a cat called Nikita.
Mel is a mama in waiting and has been on a huge fertility journey already.
"Our journey started nearly 5 years ago when a GYN deemed us ttc because we weren’t preventing pregnancy. At this time we were like if it happens great. A year later we got more serious with me turning 41 and my husband really always wanting children. my husband is as the first to get tested and we learned then that we were working with low sperm count and 0% morphology. I was placed on ovulation induction medication 7 months later. Then COVID hit and we spent another 7 months with medicated cycles at home. Oct 2020 we had our consult with our clinic and in Nov 2020 we cycled for our first of 5 failed IUI cycles. April 2021 we were told it was time to move to IVF and that donor would likely be the best option. June & Sept 2021 we did an egg retrieval and none of our embryos made it to blastocyst. Oct 21 we were told it was time to decide on donor conception. We chose a donor in November 2021 and she had her egg retrieval January 2022. Since we have had 3 FET, one that failed and two that resulted in miscarriage. Currently undergoing testing to find a reason for the miscarriages. "
In this episode we discuss:
- Mel's greatest challenge on this journey
"Though we knew that we possibly needed to use donor eggs from the very beginning of our IVF journey, it was still hard to consider, losing my genetics and fear of what other people would think."
- The emotional roller coaster.
"Grief and despair from loss in many ways. Excitement in each stage"
- Her biggest tip to fellow IVF warriors
"Advocate for yourself. Do not wait. You don’t need a referral to the fertility clinic. If you think there is something wrong even if there isn’t be the squeaky wheel and be seen."
