The “why” tends to be super important to ADHDers. If you have a neurodivergent brain, it’s probably helpful for you to be in tune with what’s important to you and what the benefits are. Keep asking yourself why until you get down to the main motivation. Creating routines can be helpful but only if you’re actually in tune with what you want and need.

Changing habits can be completely daunting, especially when you have executive dysfunction. Executive functioning is pretty vital for creating sustainable change because it encompasses organization, task initiation, planning and prioritizing, self-monitoring, emotional control, and more. It’s easy to get caught up in perfectionism and then avoid the task altogether and then get into a shame cycle about the procrastination. I’m trying to help you move out of that cycle! Let’s focus on making one tiny change at a time and then celebrating that accomplishment for what it is!
