30. The Danger of Joining the "Clean Plate Club"
09/21/22 • 19 min
When you were a child, did you ever have an adult tell you not to get up from the table until you ate every bite of food on your plate? If so, you may have been initiated into the "clean plate club".
The problem with the clean plate club is that it causes you to ignore your body's own hunger and fullness cues. Instead, it teaches you to rely on an empty plate to tell you when to stop eating.
One of the biggest dangers of being part of the clean plate club is that you may unintentionally pass this habit on to your kids. If children are taught to eat even when they're not hungry, that can set them up for a lifetime of overeating and binge eating.
In this episode, I talk about why we may think asking our kids to clean their plates is helpful, but why it actually isn't in reality. I also talk about what you can do instead to support your children at mealtimes.

29. Remember Why You Want This
In this episode, I talk about your big why and your big why not . Your big why is your reason for wanting to change. It's the reason why you want to stop binging, dieting, obsessing about food, or hating your body.
Your big why not helps you understand what your life will look like if you do not change. It reminds you of what your future looks like if you continue to follow the rules of diet culture.
Healing your relationship with food is not always easy. There will definitely be times when you want to give up and go back to your old habits. During those times, remembering your big why reminds you of why it's worth it to continue moving forward.
