All About Resumes!
12/12/19 • 27 min
We all know we need a resume. Oh, but the excuses we all have for procrastinating this vital task.
No one wants to be caught with an outdated resume, but somehow we never seem to find the time to chunk one out.
Today, I am going to share why it is essential to have an updated resume, what makes a modern and compelling resume, and how to capture your data, so you have everything you need. I promise this won’t be boring or the same old advice.
Check Out These Highlights:
(01:19) I promise you, if you put a resume together without intention, without sitting down and figuring out who you are, what you want to do, and what you want to contribute to the world, you will attract a job that doesn't align with you. So it is really important to find that a resume is the outcome of some great soul searching as opposed to the input into a job search.
(05:41) It is a great time to kind of collect those thoughts, remember what you're doing and really start to build a collection of data that you can work from to create your resume.
(08:26) A resume really should be the output of the really simple question of how do I show my credentials and where I'm going so that I can really choose who I want to be when I grow up.
(12:34) So how do you know what to share on a resume?
(15:46) Every bullet that's on your resume, you should be super proud of. You should smile when you read what you've accomplished and you should just be jazzed about it.
(16:25)Share the scope of the work that you do and the complexities of it help people to understand who you are and the things that you juggle in your life.
(22:55) Make the sloppy copy, then come in and really refine it.
(25:14) For you folks who haven't written a resume in 30 years...

Networking - How to Shift your Mindset and Build your Confidence.
When it comes to building a successful career, there’s no doubt that you’re going to have to get out there and network. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to love it!
Today, I share strategies and real-world advice to help make Networking “not a dirty word.”
You and I both know how much time it takes to cultivate a great network, right? Hours, if not days, of follow up, events, and putting yourself out there.
But to be successful, your mindset is critical. Whether you’re looking to build a career or create a life you love -- it all comes back to your mindset.
Most of my clients feel incredibly uncomfortable networking. I have even had clients tell me it feels slimy and inauthentic. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
I haven’t always liked networking. In fact, I can say that I avoided the book “Never Eat Alone” for over ten years because I hated the idea of giving up my quiet lunches.
However, I’ve realized that networking is THE KEY to success. So, I share my strategies and tips for successful networking.
I challenge you to take these strategies and make them your own. Use them over and over to shift your mindset and boost your confidence so that whether you are networking to find a new job or increase your industry influence, you can do so and have fun.
Go ahead and take these strategies to start creating real impact for yourself and your career!
You’ll learn...
- What networking Is and Isn’t.
- How giving and taking balances the equation in networking.
- Who you should network with.
- How to easily nurture your network.
- And what networking events you should attend for the most impact. (hint it isn’t what you think!)

Breakin’ The Rules
Breakin’ the rules. That is what we are always doing here at Deviant Thinking.
What rules am I talking about? All of those should’s and the conventional wisdom that is driving you crazy and limiting your career.
Rule-breakers move ahead.
Rule-breakers get noticed.
And Rule-breakers flourish.
Rules are sneaky devils. They show up where we least expect them. They masquerade as protection, but what they really do is shackle our dreams and abilities.
Today we explore rule-breaking. How do we identify these pesky buggers? What do we do with them? And how do we tell our well-meaning, rule-following, friends & family to take a hike when we want to break a rule.
This is not an episode to tell you to do something illegal or immoral! On the contrary, the only crime here is you not living your life to the fullest.
Check Out These Highlights:
(00:50) What do I mean by rules?
(04:26) How do we look at the rules that we need to break?’
(06:13) My favorite rule breaking question.
(08:43) Challenge you to look at your current role or a role you would love to be in and think about. What are you assuming about that role? What rules are you making up?
(09:17) Examples of wisdom that often needs to be broken.
(14:15) What's the impact of having some of these limiting beliefs?
(14:54 )When you're breaking roles, you're going to make people uncomfortable. That's why those rules are there. People love rules. It keeps them safe.
