All About Resumes!
Deviant Thinking with Jennifer Thompson
12/12/19 • 27 min
We all know we need a resume. Oh, but the excuses we all have for procrastinating this vital task.
No one wants to be caught with an outdated resume, but somehow we never seem to find the time to chunk one out.
Today, I am going to share why it is essential to have an updated resume, what makes a modern and compelling resume, and how to capture your data, so you have everything you need. I promise this won’t be boring or the same old advice.
Check Out These Highlights:
(01:19) I promise you, if you put a resume together without intention, without sitting down and figuring out who you are, what you want to do, and what you want to contribute to the world, you will attract a job that doesn't align with you. So it is really important to find that a resume is the outcome of some great soul searching as opposed to the input into a job search.
(05:41) It is a great time to kind of collect those thoughts, remember what you're doing and really start to build a collection of data that you can work from to create your resume.
(08:26) A resume really should be the output of the really simple question of how do I show my credentials and where I'm going so that I can really choose who I want to be when I grow up.
(12:34) So how do you know what to share on a resume?
(15:46) Every bullet that's on your resume, you should be super proud of. You should smile when you read what you've accomplished and you should just be jazzed about it.
(16:25)Share the scope of the work that you do and the complexities of it help people to understand who you are and the things that you juggle in your life.
(22:55) Make the sloppy copy, then come in and really refine it.
(25:14) For you folks who haven't written a resume in 30 years...

Guarantee Your Success by Building Your Own Success Plan
Deviant Thinking with Jennifer Thompson
11/07/19 • 27 min
Success doesn’t happen by accident, it needs a plan.
You and I both know how much time and effort it takes to achieve our goals. We spend time setting goals, resolutions, and chanting affirmations that we can do it! But the reality is that many people get derailed by obstacles- mostly of our own making. This makes achieving your goals more painful than it should.
But there is a way, that is scientifically researched and tested to supercharge your success.
Today I’m going to share why goals alone fall short and why creating a success plan will supercharge your achievement. This can help in all areas of life, career, entrepreneurship, and home.
So if you’re ready to supercharge your success, today’s show is a must-listen. I will share the why’s behind creating a success plan and also give you the step by step guide to creating your own success plan.
Biggest Take-Aways You Don’t Want To Miss:
(02:52) So who does this plan apply to? Both individuals and teams can use this to help them be successful.
(04:49) The first and most important thing is to visualize your ideal endpoint. This is a little different than goal setting.
(08:23) We all know goal setting and we know we all need to get to this end state. Well folks, now's where the twist comes because now that you've got that ideal end state, I want you to sit in it for just a second and think, Oh God, how wonderful is that? And now here is the twist...
(10:25) What obstacles could come about that I would have to overcome to hit my ideal state?
16:11) So once I know what stands in my way, now that I know what the obstacles are, I have to create the plan to overcome those obstacles.
(20:47) The next question I have, and this is I'd say even a bonus question on a success plan and for me it's been one of the things that has really tilted my success.

Networking - How to Shift your Mindset and Build your Confidence.
Deviant Thinking with Jennifer Thompson
12/05/19 • 27 min
When it comes to building a successful career, there’s no doubt that you’re going to have to get out there and network. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to love it!
Today, I share strategies and real-world advice to help make Networking “not a dirty word.”
You and I both know how much time it takes to cultivate a great network, right? Hours, if not days, of follow up, events, and putting yourself out there.
But to be successful, your mindset is critical. Whether you’re looking to build a career or create a life you love -- it all comes back to your mindset.
Most of my clients feel incredibly uncomfortable networking. I have even had clients tell me it feels slimy and inauthentic. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
I haven’t always liked networking. In fact, I can say that I avoided the book “Never Eat Alone” for over ten years because I hated the idea of giving up my quiet lunches.
However, I’ve realized that networking is THE KEY to success. So, I share my strategies and tips for successful networking.
I challenge you to take these strategies and make them your own. Use them over and over to shift your mindset and boost your confidence so that whether you are networking to find a new job or increase your industry influence, you can do so and have fun.
Go ahead and take these strategies to start creating real impact for yourself and your career!
You’ll learn...
- What networking Is and Isn’t.
- How giving and taking balances the equation in networking.
- Who you should network with.
- How to easily nurture your network.
- And what networking events you should attend for the most impact. (hint it isn’t what you think!)

Company Culture - Are You A Fit?
Deviant Thinking with Jennifer Thompson
11/14/19 • 17 min
Company culture; the current hot buzzword of companies.
It is used as a carrot to attract top talent. And as a stick to use as an excuse as to why someone didn’t get the job. It is a bit all over the place.
What does company culture really mean? And what is the impact on you? How is it defined? And most importantly, how can you evaluate to know if you want to be apart of that team?
Today we explore company culture and how you align with it or not — no stuffing you into a box, like an oversized down comforter.
This is not an episode to tell you to change who you are to fit in! On the contrary, it is about you becoming clear on who you are and figuring out if the company you work for or may want to work with is in alignment with you.
Today I will share with you how to evaluate that very elusive thing: culture fit. I will give you some sure-fire ways to compare you and the company. Including my super-secret, favorite question to determine the culture of an organization. Hint it isn’t, “What is the company culture like?” All that gets you is the same dish of tuna that they serve everyone, and it usually stinks.
Check Out These Highlights:
(01:11) Corporate culture is defined by two things. It is defined by the values of the corporation and by their voice.
02:03) Living our values, and exercising them every day, is when we as human beings flourish. Learn how to define your values.
(05:14) So now the flip side for a corporation, how do you look at a corporation's values?
(07:18) What does voice have to do with culture? It's kind of a weird way to define it. I'm always looking at things from a little bit different perspective. To me, voice is the energy of the organization and a lot of ways it's the how they show up.
(10:43) I want to make sure as I go to an organization, I'm able to speak in that voice because if not, I'm really capping myself.
(12:08) So here's the nugget for today and it's how do you actually find this information and how do you evaluate it? It is my secret weapon question for finding out about corporate culture.
