In this 106th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.
We discuss Covid deaths in 2021, versus 2020, and what the numbers mean about public health policy; we also talk about the new variant. We briefly visit the difference in reporting between the Rittenhouse trial and the assault on people in a Christmas parade in Waukesha. We discuss types of woke, including medical. What is wrong with higher education, and how can we fix it? What does Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance have to say about the “church of reason”? And finally: Bret’s newest essay in UnHerd, The Liberal Case for Gun Ownership.

In this 113th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

This week, we talk about Omicron, Covid, and how public policy has failed to change in light of this highly transmissible but far less dangerous variant. We discuss two excellent essays in Tablet, one by a rabbi in San Francisco, the other on scientific and medical “dissidents,” of which we are two. We discuss the powerful and immense truckers’ convoy in Canada, which is signaling resistance to vaccine mandates, among other authoritarian measures that the duplicitous Ken doll who leads that country has implemented. We show that the MSM in the US is not covering the truckers convoy at all. We discuss Spotify and Substack and Neil Young and Joe Rogan, and provide a simple rubric for one way that you can know if you are on the wrong side of history: you favor censorship.

In this 117th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

This week, we discuss Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), vaccine mandates, and how very non-inclusive many arts (and other organizations) are being while they claim to be embracing DEI. We discuss the entraining of humans via mask mandates, and through prescriptions on how and where to walk. We talk about the policies that have been put in place “to protect people from Covid,” and how ineffective, or anti-effective, many of them have been. We discuss the value of meandering, of serendipity, of not knowing what the path will be. We discuss the value of work, and of spending time generating solutions. We discuss whether, as some have claimed, the mRNA vaccines are “gene therapy,” and what would that mean, according to the FDA’s definitions of same. We share an excerpt from Orwell’s 1937 The Road to Wigan Pier, which bears striking similarities to today’s economy. We discuss the price of lumber.

In this 109th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.
This week, we talk about many things Covid. Obesity is a well-established comorbidity for Covid, but the mainstream media often insists that stigma, rather than actual physiological reality, is what puts fat people at risk. Why do public health injunctions so rarely offer anything that individuals can actually do for themselves? Children are at very low risk from bad outcomes from Covid. What are we stealing from them that we have no right to steal—with masks, physical distancing, and other interventions? How can we go on an “ethical offense” against mandates and other top-down measures? And finally: observations from the ground in Australia. Also: research-based consumer reviews, and the many languages into which our book is being translated!

In this 104th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.
How can higher education be saved? The University of Austin launched this week, to much enthusiasm, some ridicule, and cautious optimism. We discuss what higher ed in general, and UATX in particular, needs to consider, including that faculty need to know something real, be able to communicate it, and have a fundamental belief in the humanity of their students. We discuss religion in the context of Chesterton’s fence, and apologies. What is an apology, why are apologies not just valuable but necessary, and how is modernity rendering them less useful? Finally: an update on the zoo giraffes who died, which we discussed last week: they had not been vaccinated, according to a Newsweek fact check. And a short discussion of quail.

In this 88th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.
In this episode, we discuss a recent loss, and its interface with the on-line environment, before moving into the meat (and veg) of the episode: food! Beginning with an excerpt from chapter 5 of A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century—Food—we discuss the role of food in the lives of both modern and ancient humans. We discuss research that finds that the health and longevity of mid-Victorian era Britons was equal to or better than our own; and other research that addresses how not just food, but our microbiomes, are affected by the environments in which we live. We discuss the efffects of sterilizing our environments during Covid, and finally, how co-morbidities (“underlying conditions”) predict outcomes in Covid patients who are hospitalized.
