Dad Bod WOD Podcast - 60 Pounds in 6 Months with Kyle Borden
play

05/26/20 • 45 min

#013 On this week's episode, we have Kyle Borden, an Oklahoma State trooper who gets to fly a helicopter around catching bad guys all day. And as badass as that may sound, what’s even more badass is that Kyle is a regular guy like you and me. He’s not a CrossFit celebrity or a coach with like 100k followers on Instagram. He’s a regular guy who I connected with over Instagram and we’ve had a friendly relationship over the months since.
One day, Kyle posted a transformation pic and explained how he lost 60 pounds in just 6-months, and I was seriously astonished. I never would’ve guessed he was 60 or 70 pounds heavier because he’s a pretty fit dude!
I'm excited that he's here to share exactly how he did it.

Throughout our conversation, you’ll hear:

  • A funny story of how Kyle was initially motivated by wanting to simply look good in a swimsuit
  • The simple tweak he made to his diet which led to losing 6 pounds in the first day
  • You’ll also hear how he asked his wife to support him through this journey
  • How he shed a ton of weight and started to feel better before he even bothered lifting a weight or doing any kind of exercise.
  • And some simple tips and tricks that anybody could do to get started on their fitness journey today!

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how finding a community of like-minded people can make all the difference between success and failure.

#021 - This week, I’m joined by guest co-host Michael Ashford of the Fit Dad Fitness podcast. Michael was actually my first guest back on Episode 002, entitled How Asking For Feedback Will Make You a Better Father and Husband, which I highly recommend you give a listen to, because in that conversation not only do you get to learn a ton about Michael, but we dive deep into how men often get in their own way and if we just set our egos aside and sought feedback more often, we’d be way better off.
Michael is back on today to discuss how consistency is more important than perfection, and I couldn’t think of anyone who embodies consistency more than Michael. He’s been working out consistently for 8 years and he’s only recently had to take some time off to recover from surgery.
Throughout today’s conversation, you’ll learn how consistency is more important than perfection and our top 5 tips for being consistent.
Specifically, we’re talking about:

  • Goal setting
  • Doing things when you don’t want to
  • Understanding that sometimes you have to be extreme
  • Setting reminders and small rewards
  • And making your goal a part of your identity

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show, where you’ll hear how being consistent will not only help you achieve your fitness goals but will make you a better more present father, as children thrive when their parents are super consistent.

#082 - Whenever you hear me say, "you can lose up to 20 lbs in as little as 12 weeks," does that sound too good to be true? Well, my guest on this week's episode is James Notarianni, a private 1 to 1 coaching client of mine who felt the same way. James who is also a super busy dad with super limited time was skeptical at first too but signed up for the program and lost over 20 lbs himself. And here's the best part: he lost all this weight over the holiday season - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years! In this conversation, we discuss exactly how he lost over 20 lbs, how his life was before signing up for the program, why he signed up, what he learned in the program and his advice for anyone who is considering signing up. Seriously, you're not going to want to miss this one.

Dad Bod WOD Podcast - Wear Your Gym On Your Back with Daniel Skidmore of GORUCK
play

06/30/20 • 56 min

#018 - On this week’s episode, I’m joined by Daniel Skidmore, the director of training over at GORUCK.

Daniel served as an Air Force Combat controller, where he trained to be ready for whatever. Combat Controllers are special operations forces who specialize in all aspects of air-ground communication, including air traffic control and fire support in covert environments. As you could imagine, Daniel was trained by some of the best in the business.

While in the military, Daniel took his passion for training others and opened up a CrossFit affiliate near Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and eventually became a part of the training cadre for GoRUCK, which in addition to their awesome backpacks put on these huge obstacle like events for anyone to participate in and experience some pretty bad ass training.

Daniel is also the owner of Ruckwrap, which provides compression and other training tools for you fitness toolbox.

Throughout this conversation you’ll hear

  • How Daniel got involved in training others
  • What the term RUCKING even means
  • How you can add rucking to your training regime, especially if you’re just going for a walk with the stroller.

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show, where you’ll hear how you can be more intentional with your training so that you can be more functional while playing with your kids.

Dad Bod WOD Podcast - How to Set and Achieve Powerful Goals
play

10/20/20 • 32 min

#034 - Are you waiting for your dreams to come true, or are you actively chiseling away at your goals? What's the difference? Well, for one thing, goals are something you've written down or proclaimed. Goals are something you're acting on. Goals require action. On the other hand, dreams are something you're just thinking about. They often don't come with a plan, measurable benchmarks, and most of the time,, and worst of all, daydreaming about our goals requires zero action, yet make us feel all warm and squishy inside as though our dreams have come true. Discovering your big WHY and the reasons for accomplishing your specific milestones. It's more than putting a date on a daydream. You are creating an energetic connection from your dreams to your reality.

On this week's episode, I'm breaking down EXACTLY what I would do, step by step in order to start a health and fitness journey from scratch. #007 On Today’s show, we have Cam Hall, a nutritionist and founder of FightTheDadBod.Ca. In fact, I hired him earlier this year to help me get back on track when I was in a post-holiday rut.

Cam is an overall great guy with tons of positive energy as you’ll hear in the show. And unlike most fitness influencers on Instagram, Cam chose to focus his expertise on nutrition rather than the fitness side of things because of his experience and struggles with finding a healthy relationship with food.

You see, Cam was always known as a fit guy - he played sports in high school and in college and spent extra time in the gym while the other athletes were partying. However, Cam also had this super unhealthy relationship with food. In order to achieve his desired look, he literally ate chicken and carrots for every meal with brown rice for one of those meals for years.

And when he and his wife had their first baby, Cam like most busy dads was overworked, overstressed and he ended up putting on a ton of weight.

In order to get that weight off, he reverted back to his old habits of eating chicken and carrots.

It wasn’t until he went to a seminar where he unlocked the secret to losing weight and keeping it off without cutting calories or fasting.

Throughout this conversation you’ll hear:

  • how Cam’s relationship with nutrition changed
  • how he’s applying those principles to successfully coach other men to do the same
  • The simple no-frills “PFC Every Three” formula he teaches his clients to use
  • And sample meal plans that you can implement tomorrow

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how you can implement this no-diet strategy into your family’s routine starting with tomorrow’s breakfast!
