Never Go On a Diet Again with Cam Hall of Fight the Dad Bod

Dad Bod WOD Podcast

#007 On Today’s show, we have Cam Hall, a nutritionist and founder of FightTheDadBod.Ca. In fact, I hired him earlier this year to help me get back on track when I was in a post-holiday rut.

Cam is an overall great guy with tons of positive energy as you’ll hear in the show. And unlike most fitness influencers on Instagram, Cam chose to focus his expertise on nutrition rather than the fitness side of things because of his experience and struggles with finding a healthy relationship with food.

You see, Cam was always known as a fit guy - he played sports in high school and in college and spent extra time in the gym while the other athletes were partying. However, Cam also had this super unhealthy relationship with food. In order to achieve his desired look, he literally ate chicken and carrots for every meal with brown rice for one of those meals for years.

And when he and his wife had their first baby, Cam like most busy dads was overworked, overstressed and he ended up putting on a ton of weight.

In order to get that weight off, he reverted back to his old habits of eating chicken and carrots.

It wasn’t until he went to a seminar where he unlocked the secret to losing weight and keeping it off without cutting calories or fasting.

Throughout this conversation you’ll hear:

  • how Cam’s relationship with nutrition changed
  • how he’s applying those principles to successfully coach other men to do the same
  • The simple no-frills “PFC Every Three” formula he teaches his clients to use
  • And sample meal plans that you can implement tomorrow

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how you can implement this no-diet strategy into your family’s routine starting with tomorrow’s breakfast!

How to Keep Up With Your Kids with Austin Malleolo

#006 Today we have Austin Malleolo, who’s resume is like one of those never ending cartoon scrolls that go on and on- he’s a CrossFit Games Athlete, a CrossFit Seminar Staff and Flomaster, an affiliate owner with three gyms of his own, a co-owner of the HAM plan, the General Manager of the Reebok Gym in Boston and of course he’s a dad of an 18-month old girl.

And while it was tempting to ask him about his impressive CrossFit Games career I really wanted Austin to share with us how he manages everything on his plate - the resume i just outline - with being a relatively new dad. Because like a lot of you guys, he’s in the thick of it right now.

We recorded this conversation during the height of the COVID Pandemic, while most of us are working from home and sheltering in place.

So in this conversation we discuss Austin’s daily routines, when he works out, how he and his wife split of the parenting so that working from home can still happen, how fitness allows him to be the kind of father that he always wanted to be, and simple tips and tricks for you to get motivated to fight the dad bod.

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how you can integrate fitness into the family without overwhelming your spouse or kids!

From Rock Bottom to Rock Solid with Jared Jordan, CrossFit Seminar Staff Member

#008 On this week’s episode, we have Jared Jordan, a CrossFit Seminar Staff Member who co-owns CrossFit of Ithaca with his wife. In fact, Jared was one of the instructors at my Level 1 a while back.

Jared who used to race bikes in a previous career describes how a near-fatal bike accident resulting in traumatic brain injury led to a downward spiral of depression, emotional issues, medications, a loss of identity, and mood swings, which he never fully recovered from which eventually led him to walk out on his wife and newborn son.

Jared believed that his son deserved to be loved by someone who wanted to be his father.

I don’t want to give away too much of this story, because it’s definitely a must-hear, but a big shout out to all the ladies out there who don’t quit on their men.

Throughout this conversation you’ll hear:

  • How Jared defines being the “Perfect Dad”
  • How being present is just a part of being a perfect dad
  • And that genuinely enjoying what you’re doing while your present with your kid is a far better experience for them in the long run.
  • You’ll also hear Jared’s tips and tricks for anybody struggling to ease into shape
  • And his go-to workouts when pressed for time.

You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how longevity is the name of the game if you want to be able to keep up with your kids throughout their childhood.
