Cold Case Crew - The Murder of Rosina Fazio
play

06/08/22 • 28 min

On the October 22, 1949, Rosina “Rosie” Fazio, left her residence in Charleston, WV to go to the market and collect groceries for her local beer garden and restaurant. The details of the events that follow are vague at best, blurred by conflicting news reports and slowly erased by the years of time. The story goes that Rosina had been thrown from a vehicle not once but twice, and had sustained life threatening injuries before finally being discovered around 11:30pm. She succumbed to her injuries several days later, but not before identifying her assailant, who to this day is shrouded in mystery. Join Ashley, Beth and Whitney as they re-tell “The Murder of Rosina Fazio,” a cold case local to Charleston, West Virginia and the first in our “Crimes of Our Capitol City” Series.

It will be 73 years this October since the senseless murder of Rosina Fazio and her case is still unsolved. Since this is not an open or active cold case, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any insight or information on the murder of Rosina Fazio.

Banking Executive LaRoy Gorman seemingly had the world on a string. Gorman, a self made man who scaled the proverbial ladder of success, sat on the board of multiple charities and was a well respected member of the Charleston Business Community. On the evening of November 12, 1982, Gorman and his girlfriend were leaving the Steak and Ale Restaurant when he was struck by three (3) gunshots as he attempted to enter his vehicle. His assailant promptly peeled out of the parking lot, never to be identified. But what started out as a fairly straightforward investigation into one of Charleston’s most respectable citizens soon became muddled with confusion as revelations of Gorman’s personal life were brought into question. Who would want to kill LaRoy Gorman? Join the CCC for the final installment in our “Crimes of Our Capitol City Series” The 1982 “Murder of LaRoy Gorman,” a Cold Case local to Kanawha County, WV.

Cold Case Crew - The Mad Butcher of West Virginia
play

05/11/22 • 40 min

Between 1962-1964 Southern West Virginia was being haunted by the presence of a seemingly “Mad Man.” Throughout the course of several years as many as seven (7) men disappeared while walking alone or hitchhiking in Fayette and Wyoming Counties. It wasn’t until the butchered remains of Mike Rogers were discovered in December 1962 that panic spread throughout the small Appalachian Community and the legend of “Mad Butcher of West Virginia” took hold. Though only two (2) butchered bodies were ever discovered, the whereabouts of the others remain a mystery. Come along with the Cold Case Crew as they re-tell the story of the “Mad Butcher of West Virginia.” In this Part 1, we will discuss the victims and the circumstances surrounding the disappearances and follow up with the investigation and suspects in our next episode.

Cold Case Crew - The Disappearance of Melanie Metheny
play

11/09/22 • 33 min

“But what about my babies!”— It may sound cliche, I know, but as a mother, you rarely give a second thought to what would happen if you somehow found yourself forcibly taken from your children prematurely. You partially think this because so often that is not the case, that ‘It’s not going to happen to me,” but maybe too because you know that it is your worst fear realized and if you think on it too long it’s absolutely terrifying. But sadly it is a reality, especially in many missing persons cases. On July 19, 2006, twenty one (21) year old Melanie Metheny of Belle, West Virginia dropped two (2) of her three (3) children off at The Country Kids Daycare. Melanie was a devoted single mother, who had been making strides to become a nurse. Melanie made remarks to several individuals that morning that she intended to run over to the Garnet Career Center to pick up some transcripts that she needed for the upcoming semester. But Melanie would never make it to the Career Center and by the end of the day, Staff at the Country Kids Daycare contacted Melanie’s family, informing them that Melanie had never arrived back to pick up her children. Melanie has not been seen or heard from since. As clues began to unfold, the circumstances of Melanie’s fate became even blurrier and the events leading up to her disappearance shrouded in mystery. Join the Cold Case Crew as they re-tell The Disappearance of Melanie Metheny, a 2006 Cold Case from Kanawha County and the first in our Capital Crimes Comeback!
