Get ready to unlearn everything you thought you knew about podcast growth. This episode challenges a common misconception in the podcasting world - that social media is the magic key to audience growth. Our host, Eric, a seasoned industry insider, takes a hard stance based on years of experience and evidence from their own podcast journey.
Social media, while a powerful tool for conversation and content discussion, may not be the golden ticket for podcast growth that it's often portrayed to be.
This episode dives into why the relationship between social media and podcast growth isn't as straightforward as many believe, and what strategies actually do work when it comes to expanding your listener base.
Why Social Media Followers Don’t Convert To Podcast Listeners:
- Social Media Misalignment: Social media platforms and podcasts cater to different types of content consumers. Social media typically delivers quick dopamine hits through short-form content. On the other hand, podcasts offer long-form, immersive content requiring a more focused form of engagement.
- Platform Switching Hassle: Converting a social media viewer into a podcast listener requires them to take additional steps - leaving the social platform, going to a podcast app, finding your show, and then starting to listen. This barrier can deter potential listeners.
- Screen-Free Nature of Podcasts: Podcasts' screen-free nature is one of their strengths, as it allows listeners to engage while multitasking. However, this presents a challenge when trying to convert social media views, which require screen attention, into podcast downloads.
Episode Highlights:
- A deep-dive into why social media doesn't necessarily translate to podcast growth, despite common beliefs.
- Evidence-based insights from our host's own podcasting journey and industry experience.
- Discussion on how social media excels at sparking conversations and debates, but doesn't necessarily drive listeners to podcasts.
- Exploration of alternative strategies for podcast growth that have proven effective.
- Comparative analysis of social media-based growth strategies versus these alternative methods.

Spotify for Creators: The Rebrand, Vertical Video Clips, Video Monetization, Big Promises, and My Honest Take
Clipped: Your Content Creation Toolkit
12/11/24 • 14 min
Spotify has rebranded its Spotify for Podcasters platform into the newly minted Spotify for Creators. This update, launched in November 2024, aims to provide video podcasters with more tools to grow and monetize their shows.
In this episode, Eric dives into what this rebrand means, the new features Spotify has rolled out, and whether or not anyone will actually use them.
Spotify for Creators is Spotify’s attempt to shake things up in the podcast world, especially for video creators. They’ve added a couple of new features designed to make it easier to promote and monetize podcasts.
Sponsor Alert:
This podcast is proudly sponsored by Riverside, our go-to platform for recording podcasts online. We’re big fans of their AI-powered tools, including features for generating show notes, creating transcripts, and our favorite—"Magic Clips." Magic Clips uses AI to effortlessly transform your video content into shareable, short-form vertical clips. It’s a game-changer for repurposing your content. Ready to give it a try? Use promo code CLIPPED at checkout to save 20%!
First, there’s the new video clip upload tool, which allows creators to share vertical short-form clips on Spotify itself. Second, they’ve introduced a monetization option for video podcasts, though the requirements and revenue split might make you pause.
While we applaud Spotify for trying to innovate, the practicality of these features raises questions—like who is really searching Spotify for video clips when platforms like Instagram and YouTube are already dominating the space?
Spotify For Creators Key Features:
Vertical Video Clips
- Upload short-form, vertical videos to promote your podcast directly on Spotify.
- Ideal for teasers, promos, and highlights, but let’s be honest—do people really consume short-form content on Spotify?
Full-Length Video Uploads:
- Not a new feature, but a reminder: you can upload your entire video podcast to Spotify so users can choose between audio or video.
Monetization Info:
- Host your podcast on Spotify (no external hosting allowed).
- Publish at least 12 episodes.
- Achieve 10,000 listening hours and 2,000 unique listeners on Spotify in the past 30 days.
- 50/50 split between Spotify and the creator.
- Ads are programmatic, not host-read, and may lack customization.
Spotify is making moves to push podcasting forward, especially for video creators, but with strong competition from platforms like YouTube and TikTok, it’s uncertain whether these features will gain traction or truly impact the podcasting landscape.

Monetizing Content with the Amazon Influencer Program
Clipped: Your Content Creation Toolkit
12/27/23 • 12 min
Welcome to another insightful episode of Clipped,, where today we're diving into the world of the Amazon Influencer Program. If you're familiar with the Amazon Associates Program, this one offers a different, yet equally promising, avenue for monetizing your content.
In this episode, we unravel the mysteries of the Amazon Influencer Program, understand how it differs from the Associates Program, and explore how you can leverage it to earn commissions by influencing your audience.
The Amazon Influencer Program is a relatively new venture by Amazon, aimed at allowing influencers - like you and us - to earn by promoting products we believe in.
Unlike traditional affiliate marketing, this program enables you to set up your own Amazon storefront and share product recommendations through videos, lists, and posts, much like a social media platform within Amazon itself.
What's fascinating is how these influencer videos integrate into the Amazon ecosystem, appearing alongside customer reviews and Q&A sections on product pages.
This visibility can drive significant traffic and, ultimately, sales, leading to commission earnings for the influencer.
In terms of eligibility, Amazon is quite inclusive, accepting influencers with a presence on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. However, Instagram and Facebook users need a business account for application.
While Amazon remains vague about the exact follower count required, it seems that having a few hundred followers might be a good starting point, as I got accepted with my 3,000 Instagram followers.
Episode Highlights
- It’s different from the Associates Program, focusing on leveraging social media presence to drive sales.
- A step-by-step guide to getting started once accepted into the program.
- Advice on producing engaging content without needing high production value - authenticity and relevance are key.
- Insights into the application process and requirements, especially the need for a business account on certain platforms.
- A realistic look at potential earnings, with personal anecdotes and a commitment to share detailed commission structures in the show notes.
- Amazon Live – A New Frontier: Exploring the potential of Amazon Live for influencers, akin to a digital QVC platform, and its impact on sales.
- Strategies for podcasters to leverage their specific niches (beauty, pet care, etc.) for product recommendations on Amazon.

In today's episode, we're diving into a topic that every podcaster grapples with at some point: choosing between solo and interview-style episodes. It's a decision that can significantly impact your podcast's direction, audience engagement, and even monetization.
We'll explore the pros and cons of both formats, offering insights into why you might opt for one over the other. If you’re looking to shake things up, this episode is packed with actionable tips to help you make an informed choice. From building a personal connection with your audience to leveraging interviews for networking, we've got you covered.
Solo Podcasts vs. Interview Podcasts
Solo Episodes
- Personal Connection: Solo episodes allow for a deeper, more intimate relationship with your audience.
- Control Over Content: When it's just you, you have complete control over what you talk about. This is your chance to educate, share personal stories, and build trust.
- Ease of Production: Solo episodes are generally easier to schedule, record, and edit. They often require less time and resources compared to interview episodes.
- Positioning as an Expert: Solo episodes give you the platform to establish yourself as an authority in your field, which can be crucial for brand building and monetization.
- Monetization Opportunities: Solo episodes offer a natural setting for promoting your products, services, or coaching programs without disrupting the flow of the episode.
Interview Episodes
- Expert Opinions: Interviews allow you to bring in other experts, offering your audience a fresh perspective and diversifying your content.
- Networking: Hosting interviews can be a fantastic networking opportunity, opening doors that might otherwise remain closed.
- Interview Swaps: Being a guest on your interviewee's podcast can introduce you to a new audience, creating a win-win situation for both parties.
- Content Variety: Mixing in interviews can keep your content fresh and engaging, offering a break from the usual solo episodes.
How to Choose Your Podcast Format
- Consider Your Goals: Your podcasting goals will largely dictate which format suits you best. If you're looking to position yourself as an expert, solo might be the way to go. If networking is your aim, interviews can be incredibly beneficial.
- Your Strengths Matter: Some people find solo episodes easier, while others thrive in the conversational dynamic of an interview. Knowing your strengths can help you decide.
- It's Not Either-Or: You don't have to stick to just one format. Many successful podcasts use a mix of both to keep things interesting.
Wrapping It All Up
That's a wrap for this episode! If you're struggling with podcast production o
