Get ready to unlearn everything you thought you knew about podcast growth. This episode challenges a common misconception in the podcasting world - that social media is the magic key to audience growth. Our host, Eric, a seasoned industry insider, takes a hard stance based on years of experience and evidence from their own podcast journey.
Social media, while a powerful tool for conversation and content discussion, may not be the golden ticket for podcast growth that it's often portrayed to be.
This episode dives into why the relationship between social media and podcast growth isn't as straightforward as many believe, and what strategies actually do work when it comes to expanding your listener base.
Why Social Media Followers Don’t Convert To Podcast Listeners:
- Social Media Misalignment: Social media platforms and podcasts cater to different types of content consumers. Social media typically delivers quick dopamine hits through short-form content. On the other hand, podcasts offer long-form, immersive content requiring a more focused form of engagement.
- Platform Switching Hassle: Converting a social media viewer into a podcast listener requires them to take additional steps - leaving the social platform, going to a podcast app, finding your show, and then starting to listen. This barrier can deter potential listeners.
- Screen-Free Nature of Podcasts: Podcasts' screen-free nature is one of their strengths, as it allows listeners to engage while multitasking. However, this presents a challenge when trying to convert social media views, which require screen attention, into podcast downloads.
Episode Highlights:
- A deep-dive into why social media doesn't necessarily translate to podcast growth, despite common beliefs.
- Evidence-based insights from our host's own podcasting journey and industry experience.
- Discussion on how social media excels at sparking conversations and debates, but doesn't necessarily drive listeners to podcasts.
- Exploration of alternative strategies for podcast growth that have proven effective.
- Comparative analysis of social media-based growth strategies versus these alternative methods.
- Actionable tips and advice for podcasters looking to grow their audience effectively.
Join us as we debunk myths and shine a light on the truth about podcast growth. You won't want to miss this enlightening discussion.

Monetizing Content with the Amazon Influencer Program
Clipped: Your Content Creation Toolkit
12/27/23 • 12 min
Welcome to another insightful episode of Clipped,, where today we're diving into the world of the Amazon Influencer Program. If you're familiar with the Amazon Associates Program, this one offers a different, yet equally promising, avenue for monetizing your content.
In this episode, we unravel the mysteries of the Amazon Influencer Program, understand how it differs from the Associates Program, and explore how you can leverage it to earn commissions by influencing your audience.
The Amazon Influencer Program is a relatively new venture by Amazon, aimed at allowing influencers - like you and us - to earn by promoting products we believe in.
Unlike traditional affiliate marketing, this program enables you to set up your own Amazon storefront and share product recommendations through videos, lists, and posts, much like a social media platform within Amazon itself.
What's fascinating is how these influencer videos integrate into the Amazon ecosystem, appearing alongside customer reviews and Q&A sections on product pages.
This visibility can drive significant traffic and, ultimately, sales, leading to commission earnings for the influencer.
In terms of eligibility, Amazon is quite inclusive, accepting influencers with a presence on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. However, Instagram and Facebook users need a business account for application.
While Amazon remains vague about the exact follower count required, it seems that having a few hundred followers might be a good starting point, as I got accepted with my 3,000 Instagram followers.
Episode Highlights- It’s different from the Associates Program, focusing on leveraging social media presence to drive sales.
- A step-by-step guide to getting started once accepted into the program.
- Advice on producing engaging content without needing high production value - authenticity and relevance are key.
- Insights into the application process and requirements, especially the need for a business account on certain platforms.
- A realistic look at potential earnings, with personal anecdotes and a commitment to share detailed commission structures in the show notes.
- Amazon Live – A New Frontier: Exploring the potential of Amazon Live for influencers, akin to a digital QVC platform, and its impact on sales.
- Strategies for podcasters to leverage their specific niches (beauty, pet care, etc.) for product recommendations on Amazon.

How To Monetize a Podcast With Amazon Affiliate Marketing
Clipped: Your Content Creation Toolkit
11/16/22 • 12 min
Affiliate Marketing with Amazon is a great way to make money with your podcast. I’m an Amazon Associate and I make money every month by promoting products in my show notes, blog posts, social media channels, and in my YouTube video descriptions. Believe me, If I can do it, YOU can do it.
In This Episode, You Will Learn The Following:
- How to make money from your podcast through affiliate marketing with Amazon
- How to get started with the Amazon Associates program
- The Amazon Influencer Program - create an Amazon online store and get paid to promote products you love
What Is Affiliate Marketing
If you didn’t know, Affiliate Marketing is just selling other peoples products. You get a commission if someone buys a product from you. Amazon has a great program for this, it’s called Amazon Associates. It’s wildly popular amongst podcasters.
How It Works
You sign up for the program and share links to products related to your podcast/business. Amazon will provide you with a unique link that’s traced back to you. You can link to just about any product on Amazon. If someone purchases something through your link, you get a commission.
Where To Share Your Amazon Affiliate Links
Your podcast show notes, YouTube descriptions, blog posts, and social media accounts are all great places to promote products, and share your links. Your goal should be to drive as much traffic as you can to Amazon, via your links.
The key is to only promote products that you're passionate about, and that are relevant to your niche. That way, you're providing value to your listeners and you're more likely to make sales. I've found that the best way to get started is sharing links with friends and family.
How To Sign Up To Become an Amazon Associate
Go to https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/home
There you can read through the qualifications and learn about the program in more detail.
The Qualifications
To get approved for the program you need to be a content creator of some form. Amazon doesn’t say what the EXACT qualifications are, but, it’s my understanding that you need to be putting out content. As a podcaster, you shouldn’t have a problem getting approved. I don’t think you need to have a massive following. You just need to have SOME sort of audience and be consistently creating.
You also need to make 3 sales in your first 6 months in the program, or you’ll get dropped. This actually happened to me the first time I signed up a couple years ago. To avoid getting dropped, and to make your first 3 sales, I recommend sharing some links with friends and family. Ask them to purchase something from you. This should be an easy way to make sure you hit your sales goal.
Amazon Commission Structure
The Amazon commission structure ranges from 20% per sale, to 1% per sale. Each category of product pays a different commission. Here are the per category commission rates.
