Suicide Awareness: Intimate Interview with Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs
As the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of death (after accidents) for people aged 10 to 34, suicide is a serious public health problem.
In 2016 in the United States, nearly 45,000 people died by suicide and the rate of suicide has increased every year since 2006. An estimated 1.3 million adults attempt suicide each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More than one in five people who died by suicide had expressed their suicide intent. https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/suicide-prevention
In this episode we have an intimate interview with Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs who is the founder of She Will Speak Series, author of The Tragic Type of Beautiful, poet, host on As I Was Saying podcast and a badass advocate for women rape survivors and mental health. We pull back the curtain and ask Cheyenne about her experience with suicide, suicide ideation and suicide prevention. She helps us understand that suicide is the result of wanting the pain to end and not the result of the misconception that a person doesn’t want to live.

Class Is In Session: GO VOTE!
In this episode Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson explain how the three US government branches (legislative, executive and judicial branches) work and what the various elections are. We discuss what the various parties are that we vote for during the primary and general elections. With a big election coming up it’s important to understand what appointed vs elected officials are in your local community.
Learn about the electoral college, difference between the people’s vote and the electoral vote and how trump won the election in 2016. In this episode you also learn more about Daniel Cameron’s background and closing thoughts on Breonna Taylor’s case.

- Daniel Cameron (about him https://ag.ky.gov/about/Pages/Attorney-General.aspx) was an elected official (attorney general) who chose to handle Breonna Taylors case after the district attorney of Louisville Tom Wine, (https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/metro-government/2020/05/13/breonna-taylor-shooting-top-prosecutor-wont-review-officer-conduct/5186857002/) removed himself from the case which would have been handled by the city instead of the state of Louisville Kentucky. Which is why Breonna’s family was able to get a settlement of $12 Million. So the whole conspiracy that the officers would not have been charged because money was paid to her family is false because they were handled on two different parts of the court system. Think of it as local county vs. state. https://definitions.uslegal.com/d/district-attorney/ https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Attorney+General
