Black Love Presents: Man to Man - A Black Love Wellness Series
Black Love: The Interviews
10/07/22 • 56 min
Black men, it's time to get real with each other. Wellness, self-love, finance, nutrition; these are just a few topics Black Love Inc General Manager David Wasicki will be bringing to the forefront in Man to Man: A Black Love Wellness Series. Each week the topics will change, but the insights & lessons gained from Black men of all walks of life will remain constant. Man to Man serves as a platform for men to get real-life insight directly from notable, successful men who lead with the honesty and vulnerability that Black Love is known for.
Toxic masculinity. What is it? Is it really an issue or is it some buzzword? We brought in two brothers to have a conversation about masculinity in all forms, but especially centered around being Black men: Karega Bailey, artist, educator, and angel father, and King Jay Barnett, author, speaker, and mental health therapist. Perhaps more important than the question of what is toxic masculinity is “how do we acknowledge behavior that is toxic that seems to be consistently perpetrated by men”? Honestly, there are so many questions and points asked that this is only one piece of the framework necessary for healing. But we have to start somewhere, and this is a great start with two phenomenal men.
Make sure you show Karega and Jay love on ig @karegabailey and @kingjaybarnett

Salli Richardson-Whitfield & Dondré Whitfield
Black Love: The Interviews
10/21/22 • 52 min
“We really figured out a way to compromise and be the strong people that we are without having to control each other.”
When Dondré and Salli first met, they were work friends. They were actors and Dondré had suggested Salli for a role. Plus they were both in relationships. Honestly, there were a lot of reasons as to why they wouldn't get together. Which is why when this 2018 interview for Black Love Doc came to be it all seemed meant to be. Salli and Dondré had been together for over twenty years and married for 17 of them, so they have A LOT of advice for those of us trying to find our way in this love game. Listen in as they share how they have found how to make it work for them, how manhood and roles shaped their relationship, and how talking about sex keeps them engaged with each other.

Flash forward to 2014 and CJ is finally ready to get back into the dating scene, but there was only one person he was really interested in: Rochelle. Rev Run & Justine Simmons
Black Love: The Interviews
11/05/21 • 50 min
When Justine first met Rev Run they were both teenagers. He was performing at a Kurtis Blow concert and Justine and her friends went backstage to meet him. After a memorable evening, Justine reached out to Rev (who was just Joseph at the time) and while they talked for a bit, they eventually both went their separate ways. Who knew that years later the two would reunite and their passion for the church, and love for each other would guide them both down this new journey. In this 2017 interview for the second season of Black Love Doc, Rev Run and Justine share what a relationship meant when ensuring that God was number one, how Justine navigated coming back into Rev's life after he had a divorce, and what being on a reality show meant to them. Rev and Justine's 20+ year marriage is a testament to what it means to truly be in a partnership.

Taj & Eddie George
Black Love: The Interviews
07/30/21 • 64 min
When they first met neither Eddie nor Taj were ordinary people. Eddie was a star running back for The Ohio State University and Taj was 1/3 of R&B group SWV. Their first meeting in 1994 Taj didn't give Eddie the time of day. Their second meeting in 1995 didn't fair much better. What did it take for these two to finally come together and what hardships came along the way? In this 2017 interview from the second season of Black Love Doc, Taj and Eddie share how a pro NFL star and a music sensation led to a long term long distance relationship, what pushed them to get married, and how hard it was for them to navigate their new marriage and pregnancy together while keeping their professional dreams alive.

Julie & Mark Threats
Black Love: The Interviews
08/06/21 • 58 min
Mark and Julie met in the church but Julie wasn't paying any attention to Mark. Both were coming back to the church and both really wanted to be married after they had experienced failed marriages. After two years, and a ride in an old '65 Cadillac, Julie and Mark would start dating. Their early relationship was uneventful, but Mark was hiding a secret. He would preach on Sundays but when he was not preaching he would live a whole other life. He had a drinking problem, a weed problem, a cocaine problem, he was a womanizer, and even though Julie knew he had struggles in the past, she had no idea that Mark was still living this secret life; a secret life that would continue under her nose for five years until a health scare would force him out into the open. Julie would make a list of requirements that she would hand to Mark as conditions to her staying in the marriage. Through faith, counseling and love they were able to continue forward and would find a new purpose in counseling other couples who find themselves in the troubles that they once endured.
