Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

I LOVE stories, especially real-life stories that we can relate to. This show is about sharing peoples’ stories of overcoming significant obstacles and adversity in their life. If you've been through, or are going through adversity or transformation in your own life, I hope that you'll be inspired as you realize that same potential lies within you as well.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

Each episode we explore the stories that take place between the “before” and “after” photos. Social media rarely gives opportunity to explore the true depth of the human experience when faced with challenging or even seemingly insurmountable obstacles. We dig into WHAT each person has overcome, and HOW they overcame, and WHY they kept moving forward. And ultimately, we want to shine a light on our powerful human potential and the possibilities that lie within us.

Which episode should someone start with?

Episode 101 with Holly Frances, who battled a rare disease and endured incredibly difficult circumstances.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

Ep. 19 - Nicki Pike; Ep. 28 - Christine Hardy; Ep. 35 - Melissa Bright; Ep. 46 - James Heppner; EP. 50 - Sheena Johnson; Ep. 73 - Teri Brown; Ep. 78 - Cheryl Ilov; Ep. 90 - Maxwell Ivey I was going to give a top 5, but it ended up being a top 8! I really truly have loved all of my conversations though.

Which episode are you most proud of?

Episode 100, with Alex Sanfilippo. One, because I made it to episode 100! That's no small feat in the podcasting space. But also because we were able to dive into his story in a unique and interesting way, and he was so excited to share it out because we talked about things he rarely spoke of in his public life.

What is your vision for your show?

Even 100 episodes in, this feels like a tricky question, because it's evolving. In the short term, I really hope to present stories that inspire my audience but also entertain them. The "impossible dream" is a show where I interview fascinating guests in exotic locations.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

I really enjoy(ed) the impossible truth. I'm still working through the series, but the premise is really great fun, where the contestants try to smuggle truths past the other contestants, while reading a series of seemingly random facts about a random topic.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

Originally, it was called "Wellness Unplugged", in the health, wellness and weight loss space, speaking with guests about their experience. I soon realized that despite my passion for health and weight loss, that I love even more people's stories and I wanted the freedom to explore stories beyond just weight loss. I felt like "Before and After's" didn't show the whole story, so I wanted to go deeper. After considering a few different names, it felt like the best fit for my future vision.

Tell us a bit about yourself

How about I share what I love most in this life :) My wife and my son, first and foremost, I love being a husband and a dad. I love reading Terry Pratchett discworld books, as well as Louise Penny's Armand Gamache series. I love travelling, my favorite countries so far are Iceland and Italy. I'm privileged to call Canada and Australia home. I love craft ginger beer. Thank you for reading this, I'm honored you're checking out my show. Much love to you as well!
