Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

Whew ... Um, it's been a bit crazy. I've been a nanotech researcher, a marine engineer, a powerline technician, a traveling English teacher, an oilfield equipment operater, a bricks-and-mortar store owner, and now an online master health coach and nutritionist. I also do a bit of business mentorship as well, but primarily on a word-of-mouth basis.

Why did you get into podcasting?

I stumbled in by accident, when I saw an ad to be a guest on podcasts. I was tired of the social media burnout and wanted a different way to reach audiences. I kept getting asked when I'd start my own podcast, but I wasn't sure what I'd talk about, so it took until Sept. 2021 for me to start taking it seriously.

How did the idea for the show come about?

The show started as "Wellness Unplugged with Coach Jon McLernon", which was about the health and wellness industry, as well as some stories around people losing weight and getting healthy, but I soon realized that I loved hearing peoples' stories, and I didn't want to be pigeon-holed into just talking about weight loss or health, I wanted to broaden the scope of the stories.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

That the potential for overcoming adversity, for accomplishing significant things in life IS possible. I also hope that people feel entertained and uplifted.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

Around podcasting, I would say show growth. I run 2 other businesses, Freedom Nutrition Coaching (www.freedomnutritioncoach.com) and online business mentorship (www.jonmclernon.com) and so they generate much more revenue, and take more time, so keeping the podcast going has, in the early stages, been a labor of love.

How can your listeners support your show?

Subscribe and share episodes really :). I would also love to hear from listeners and what they'd like to hear or who they'd love to have on as a guest.

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

Here's my BHAD (Big Hairy Audacious Dream): I'd love to have a show where I travel to exotic locations, share exotic food, and interview fascinating people. That would require a bit more than just my current one-man show, haha.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I really hope you feel genuinely touched by the stories you hear on this show, and I feel deeply grateful for every single one of you who has downloaded, listened, subscribed and supported the show. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
