Sometimes running around your local park for a timed, weekly 5k just doesn't cut it.

You want some more adventure, some more culture, something that completely changes the way you see the world.

No, we're not talking Brighton Marathon... we're talking participating in races that take place in some unusual and largely unvisited ares of the world - or areas where you would NEVER think of travelling right now.

Step in James Willcox, founder of Untamed Borders, a company that specialises in just that. When David ran the Afghanistan marathon, it was Untamed Borders who supported the race with their on-ground knowledge.

In this episode, David speaks to James about organising and visiting places that are off-the-map to so many, the challenges and the benefits of seeing the world from a different perspective.

Mogadishu marathon anyone?

Enjoy!

Ep 230 - John Kelly on breaking the Pennine Way record (for a whole week)

Send us a text

John Kelly makes BBR history as one of the few guests back for a third time.

(Bet that makes all those other records pale into significance...)

In this episode, Jody and David chat with John about breaking the decades-old record for running the length of the Pennine Way... only for Damian Hall to break it a week later.

There's some great stuff in this interview as John reveals his healthy rivalry/friendship with Damian and what went into this record.

John also talks about tackling the other big rounds and what it takes to succeed.

Another great episode with a BBR fave.

Enjoy!

Ep 232 - The secret to being a champion athlete with Ryan Atkins

Ryan Atkins is a MACHINE.

There aren't many people as fit or as versatile across so many sports as Ryan.

An OCR world champ several times over, there doesn't seem to be an activity Ryan doesn't do, won't do or doesn't excel at. In this podcast, he joins Jody and David to discuss his many endeavours as well as his journey into trail running and ultra running.

Ahead of the interview, Jody and David blab on about:

  • What happened on their recent night out (spoiler: not much except drinking...)
  • Why you don't want to do the Bermondsey Mile when London City Runners are in a recruiting mood
  • What Jody and David REALLY think about the On Running subscription service
  • David discusses the recent Castor Semenya ruling
  • David has an idea about making the most of bleeding nipples (spoiler: it's a terrible idea)

Enjoy!
