Mira Rai is a Nepalese trail runner who didn't quite know how good she was until she entered her first 50k. At that race, she was completely unprepared in terms of food, clothing and water, yet managed to win - impressing the ultra community around her.

Now, as a Salomon sponsored athlete Mira is pioneering trail running in a society that is patriarchal in nature. She travels the world participating in overseas trails and ultras and offers an inspirational vision for women and Nepalese runners in general.

In this episode, David talks to Mira about her journey into running, the impact it has on her family and her village and what she hopes to achieve in the future.

Sometimes running around your local park for a timed, weekly 5k just doesn't cut it.

You want some more adventure, some more culture, something that completely changes the way you see the world.

No, we're not talking Brighton Marathon... we're talking participating in races that take place in some unusual and largely unvisited ares of the world - or areas where you would NEVER think of travelling right now.

Step in James Willcox, founder of Untamed Borders, a company that specialises in just that. When David ran the Afghanistan marathon, it was Untamed Borders who supported the race with their on-ground knowledge.

In this episode, David speaks to James about organising and visiting places that are off-the-map to so many, the challenges and the benefits of seeing the world from a different perspective.

Mogadishu marathon anyone?

John Kelly makes BBR history as one of the few guests back for a third time.

(Bet that makes all those other records pale into significance...)

In this episode, Jody and David chat with John about breaking the decades-old record for running the length of the Pennine Way... only for Damian Hall to break it a week later.

There's some great stuff in this interview as John reveals his healthy rivalry/friendship with Damian and what went into this record.

John also talks about tackling the other big rounds and what it takes to succeed.

Another great episode with a BBR fave.

In this episode, Allie and Jody speak with Jay Ell Alexander, CEO of national running group Black Girls Run, who explains why this all-female community has grown and grown.

Having joined the group from its foundation, Jay took over as CEO and took the running group to 250,000 members in 35 states, making it one of the biggest running communities in the US.

Jay explains how the group came about, the challenges it faced and still faces, how brands now see Black Girls Run as an opportunity to diversify their customer base and why running groups offer more than just the opportunity to run.

Plus, Jay explains the e-Race Racism challenge that takes place in August: https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32839/erace-racism-supporting-black-girls-run

We're told to prepare for a marathon you need at least 16 weeks of training.

But what if someone showed up at your door and made your run a marathon right now?

Would you?

You could... but would you? Really?

In this episode, Jody and David speak to Fin Hampton who's making a name for himself by doing exactly that - challenging people to run a marathon with him when he rocks up at their front door.

It's an interesting thought- how much training do we *actually* need? - and the chaps take it to a ridiculous level.

WARNING - do not listen to ANY of their training advice from this episode. Not that you would normally. But ESPECIALLY don't in this episode.

Enjoy
