Support athlete activism.

Today is the 55th anniversary of one of the most iconic images of the Black freedom struggle: two Black athletes, heads bowed, raising clenched fists atop the victors’ podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Now celebrated as a historic act, Tommie Smith and John Carlos’ Olympics Black Power salute was widely condemned in its day. The 1968 Olympics Black Power salute raised questions we’re still grappling with today about racial justice, “politicized” sports, and the meaning of real solidarity.
Take Action

- Support NOlympics LA, the Union de Vecinos, and the Los Angeles Community Action Network fighting to oppose the Olympics gentrification of Los Angeles and Asian Americans’ United’s work to defend Philadelphia’s Chinatown from a basketball arena.

Navigate disinformation about Palestine.
Anti-Racism Daily
10/30/23 • 4 min
Hello, and happy Monday! As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalates, it's important to understand how media is used to shape narratives. Mainstream media has historically been invested in centering Israel, which makes education and awareness of the plight of Palestinian people difficult to understand. Today, Anmol joins us to share more.

Recognize state-sanctioned violence.
Anti-Racism Daily
10/18/23 • 5 min
In the U.S., our understanding of violence is limited. It makes it easy to cast blame on individuals, but harder to hold systems and structures accountable. How can violent offenders be treated violently by our criminal legal system? How were decades of public lynchings once leisurely weekend activities? In this episode, Andrew contextualizes violence and encourages us to think beyond what’s been normalized.
Take Action
- Oppose the violence committed against Palestinian civilians by calling and emailing Congress, attending a local protest, and donating to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
- Share content from on the ground in the Gaza Strip.
- Consider: is there an argument against the U.S. being the most violent contemporary nation that doesn’t depend on valuing the lives of non-Americans less highly or justifying their deaths?

Unpack the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Anti-Racism Daily
10/11/23 • 6 min
Happy Wednesday and welcome back. My heart is heavy with the sheer terror being inflicted on Israeli and Palestinian communities right now. The escalated conflict between Israel and Hamas reflects decades of colonization. A true and just end to this violence won’t be found through promoting continued state-funded oppression, but through the liberation of all those most oppressed in the region. We can – and we must – do this without stoking the Islamophobic and antisemitic sentiment prompted not by foreign events but by rising white extremism right here in the U.S. Today’s newsletter breaks down this conflict and how to support justice and peace.
TAKE ACTION
- Support the Palestinian Youth Movement, the Palestinian Feminist Collective, and Students for Justice in Palestine.
- Support Jewish Voice for Peace and If Not Now.
- Support B’Tselem, the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories.
- Read and share this guide by Solutions Not Sides on how to denounce antisemitism and Islamophobia when discussing the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Happy Monday, and happy solar eclipse day! Can't believe I get to witness this from my backyard! I'm also looking forward to tomorrow's workshop on decentering whiteness. As I was preparing the slides, I thought it was worth covering the topic briefly here. I'm curious – what has this practice looked like for you on your personal journey?
