Recognize state-sanctioned violence.
10/18/23 • 5 min
In the U.S., our understanding of violence is limited. It makes it easy to cast blame on individuals, but harder to hold systems and structures accountable. How can violent offenders be treated violently by our criminal legal system? How were decades of public lynchings once leisurely weekend activities? In this episode, Andrew contextualizes violence and encourages us to think beyond what’s been normalized.
Take Action
- Oppose the violence committed against Palestinian civilians by calling and emailing Congress, attending a local protest, and donating to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
- Share content from on the ground in the Gaza Strip.
- Consider: is there an argument against the U.S. being the most violent contemporary nation that doesn’t depend on valuing the lives of non-Americans less highly or justifying their deaths?
