Why is it that every time we start planning a trip, the doubts, the uncertainty about where to stay, choosing the right neighborhood, or deciding which attractions to visit pile up and outnumber the reasons to travel in a heartbeat? When was the last time you took a moment to remove your shoes, breathe, and take care of yourself?

Taking care of ourselves is somehow associated with being selfish and neglecting others' needs. The negative talk and criticism around self-care are so loud that we put our needs and desires last; we give until we are depleted, and we end up exhausted, unhappy, and with growing resentment.

In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Lydia Luna, a Clinical Psychologist, Breathwork Guide, and Spiritual Entrepreneur. She is the creator of the Moon Collective Sanctuary, where she offers in-person retreats and virtual gatherings to promote integrative care and several healing modalities, like soul discussions, breathwork, Reiki, hypnotherapy, sound healing, and body movement. Dr. Lydia soon learned the importance of being financially and emotionally independent; she used the hardships she went through in her childhood as a catalyst to improve and heal and to cement her path as a caretaker, facilitator, and healer.

Tune in to Episode 108 of Amiga, Handle Your Shit, and learn about Dr. Lydia's upbringing, her passion for helping others, and why she decided to found the Moon Collective Sanctuary. We talk about why we tend to repeat specific patterns, even those that hurt us, how to break the cycle of giving and not receiving, why men struggle to deal with their feelings, and so much more.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

About Dr. Lydia's background and tough childhood (3:16)

Why some patterns repeat themselves (9:27)

If you do nothing but give, you become resentful (14:30)

The moment Dr. Lydia listened to her inner voice and created the Moon Collective Sanctuary (18:50)

Why most men struggle to deal with their feelings (26:18)

Two practical pieces of advice to handle your shit from Dr. Lydia Luna (32:28)

When was the last time you advocated for yourself?

As women, we are often undervalued, taken for granted, and expected not to say anything when we experience something that feels wrong or inappropriate. Self-advocacy is a superpower that we can utilize to stand up for ourselves, show others that we know our worth, and discover new possibilities.

In this episode, I am joined by the incredible Maria Mastrodicasa. Maria is a former Wall Street broker, international speaker, self-advocacy coach, and author of the book "You'll Never ...": The Journey to What is Possible Through Self-Advocacy. After experiencing harassment and abuse in both the workplace and at home, Maria came to a breaking point and knew she had to stand up for herself. This led Maria to go through an amazing transformation by rediscovering her confidence and knowing her worth. Today, Maria’s life long commitment is that all women feel safe and valued in school, work, and home.
