How Do Smaller Law Enforcement Agencies Do It? Det Sean Gorman Part 1
12/31/21 • 20 min
Plus it has one of the largest casinos in the area so there is plenty of people who are just "passing through"!
Detective Sean Gorman is a 19 year veteran of the police force, has experience investigating crime from burglary to murder, is certified in crime scene investigation and is also well versed in DNA, fingerprinting and even prosecutions. He even finds time to be an adjunct professor!
Why does he do all of that? Because he lives and serves in a small community, and that's just what they do. When you have limited resources, limited personnel and yet have to deal with "big city crime", you put on whatever hat you need at the moment and just get it done.
Frankly, law enforcement officers like Detective Gorman are not that different than small business owners in anywhere America, they just get it done!
All Things Crime is a new, comprehensive video series that will explore every aspect of crime and the ensuing investigation, one video interview at a time. The host, Jared Bradley, is the President of M-Vac Systems, which is a wet-vacuum based forensic DNA collection system, and has experience traveling the world training all levels of law enforcement and crime lab DNA analysts in using the M-Vac to help solve crime. Along the way he has met people from all walks of life and experience in investigating crimes, so is putting that knowledge to use in another way by sharing it in these videos.

Crime, Drugs, and Marshall Forensics
We Are, Marshall!!
If you've ever seen that movie you know it's impossible to not tear up during numerous parts in it. It's based on a true story of when the 1970 Marshall Football Team, it's coaches and many of the prominent members of the community died in a horrific plane crash.
The actors are superb, the storyline is amazing, and the way the community of Huntington, West Virginia came together to support one another and "rise from the ashes" as replacement head coach Jack Lengyel put it, is nothing short of heart wrenching.
The best part about the movie? The residents of Huntington are happy with it, so most of it is accurate. That's a rare combination and worth checking out.
So what has happened to Huntington and Marshall since then? That depends on some significant factors along the timeline. For the most part it has maintained it's close community and small town feel, keeping what's most important like playing Christmas carols on the Marshall University bell tower, but at times, like 2021, political decisions made in Washington DC have devastated the economy and really made life difficult for many of the Huntington residents.
Anyone tied to the pharmaceutical industry and illegal drug trafficking seems to be doing well though as Huntington is rife with opioid and heroine abuse, as many communities in today's society are. Sadly all those in the energy sector are being devastated so it seems like anyone wanting to make an honest living is struggling.
But folks in small towns have a way of coming together, rallying around and supporting each other until the tide shifts again. And hopefully for all of us that will happen soon.

How Do Smaller Agencies Keep Their Communities Safe? Det Sean Gorman Part 2
Why do so many people lose their minds and act so irrationally when something changes, even if it's relatively minor? Two years ago someone started the rumor that toilet paper might become scarce. Remember that? LOTS of people lost their minds!! Every Christmas season, especially on "Black Friday", we hear of people getting into fistfights over a TV or a cabbage patch doll. And the list goes on and on.
Lincoln, Rhode Island is a smaller community of about 23,000 residents. But being in the East, and not far from Providence, Boston and other large cities it has it's share of spillover.
Plus it has one of the largest casinos in the area so there is plenty of people who are just "passing through"!
