Podcast Q&A
Why did you start this show?
June 2020
What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?
Fun facts about history they can use as ice breakers at parties. Or about all the forgotten women throughout history that either did really bad stuff, or really awesome stuff that no one talks about. Also, cannibalism: yeah, we go there.
Which episode should someone start with?
Good question. Well, what do you like? If you want to learn about "witches," start with Episode 40: The Essex Witch Trials. Like learning about female killers? Start with Episode 5: Lavinia Fisher. Looking for something paranormal? Check out Episode 8: The Demonic History of Ventriloquism. Want something weird? Listen to Episode 14: The 1st U.S. Cremation. We also cover stories from other countries, the Wild West, and funny & weird things we guarantee you've never heard of.
Which have been your favourite episodes so far?
I (Lindsay) love covering cases that are really hard to find information about, and especially when we bring to light stories of injustice against BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ peoples. Everyone has a voice, and it shouldn't be lost to time.
Which episode are you most proud of?
That's tough, because I (Lindsay) love all of them for one reason or another. I am very proud of our first author interview and our first collaboration episode. We really appreciate other creators in the indie podcast space that invite us on their shows as well.
What is your vision for your show?
To continue to produce funny and educational content for a broader audience. We're pretty niche in both the history AND true crime space, but that just means we're the best of both worlds. Also, our dream is to interview Aaron Mahnke from "Lore" one day. Just throwing that into the universe.
What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?
Doomsday: History's Most Dangerous Podcast, Victorian Variety Show, Weird Distractions, Sandman Stories Presents
How did you come up with the name for your podcast?
I (Lindsay) can't really remember. I remember wanting it to portray that it was a history show, and also true crime. Then I just thought of it and it stuck.
Tell us a bit about yourself
Ye Olde Crime is the brainchild of sisters Lindsay Valenty & Madison Stangl — two Midwestern girls interested in the funny, strange, and obscure crimes of yesteryear. Each week we discuss a little known crime or paranormal case from the pre-1900s — from badass women, like Ching Shih the Pirate Queen, to animal trials and kidnappings, if it's strange and unknown, we're gonna talk about it.
