I Almost Backed Out of a Life Changing Opportunity

I was in the process of ending a long marriage in a brand new city and state. It was just my then 10-year-old son and me - family and friends all lived 14-20 hours away.
For years, I'd wanted to do something for me. Martial arts had been on my radar for over a decade, so I found a place and signed-up for fitness kickboxing.
There I was in the middle of an ugly divorce and about to start something completely brand new to me without knowing soul in the area.
I almost backed out.
In the end, I chose me and what I wanted and knew I needed. Without question, doing what I felt called to do created change in my life that I will forever be grateful for.

Holy Smokes! It Was a Rattlesnake.

It was Christmas Eve on the ranch and I suddenly heard a yelp/scream come from the neighboring house. There were a number of houses close together. I was staying in the renovated bunkhouse for a few months and had made friends with my neighbors.
Hearing her shriek, I rushed out my back door to see what was going on.
"There's a rattlesnake at my door!" she hollered at me.
Now, she was the caretaker on the ranch and was used to encountering wild animals, but having a rattler curled up at your front door is startling no matter who you are.
When you choose to live more freely and live a life that fulfills your soul, you may very well encounter a rattler now and again - literally or metaphorically.

Being Scared vs. Feeling Afraid

A few years ago, someone said to me, "Jaycie, you're not scared of anything."
My shocked reply, "I'm afraid of everything." That was a bit of an exaggeration, but it was my knee jerk response.
Here's the deal: Being scared is different than being afraid!
When you're scared, you're in the state of fear. You're frozen with fear.
When you're afraid, you're apprehensive and may feel the fear, but you're aware of the feeling. You don't allow the fear to stop you. You're able to process the information and make an educated decision to move forward or not.
