#76 - Chatty
11/10/23 • 35 min
Hello lovelies! Welcome back to another episode of Widowed AF, where Jon and Rosie, deep dive (terrible) into a chatty catch-up about our week. It's been a rollercoaster, as always!
This week, we brought you an incredibly special chat with Claire, a lesbian widow, who shared her story about her partner Rupa's battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and the complexities of raising children in the shadow of grief.
As usual, we get real about our personal struggles with mental health, therapy (because, let's face it, we all need a bit of that!), and the whirlwind of managing a big, neurodiverse family. We also have a good natter about our hobbies, how fitness routines help our mental health (cold baths, anyone?), and some exciting news about the upcoming Widowed AF merchandise line. Plus, I share my musings on perimenopause and the wonders of hormone replacement therapy - trust me, it's a game changer!
Join us for a heartfelt, sometimes hilarious, and always honest conversation. We're all about keeping it real and providing a sense of community for anyone walking through the maze of widowhood and life's unexpected twists.
Key Topics:
Claire's Inspiring Story: Discussing lesbian widowhood, coping with a partner's illness, and facing the future bravely.
Mental Health Chats: The importance of therapy, especially for men (looking at you, Jonathan), and dealing with life's stressors.
Family Dynamics: The challenges and joys of raising neurodiverse children, and why support and understanding are everything.
Life & Hobbies: From fitness routines to hobbies that never quite stuck (like my candle making kit!), and our excitement for Widowed AF merch.
Community Love: Remembering that we're all in this together, so don't be shy to reach out or share. Whether you're a long-time listener or new to our podcast family, we hope you enjoy feeling less alone out there ♥️
Next Episode Tease: Don't miss our next episode, where we'll share Maria's unique and compelling story - it's one you won't want to miss.

#75 - Clare Hardy
In this episode of Widowed AF, host Rosie Gill-Moss is joined by Clare Hardy, a young widow navigating grief and single parenthood after the death of her wife Rupa. Rupa had Hodgkin's lymphoma and passed away from complications of cellulitis at age 36, leaving behind Clare and their two young children.
Clare bravely shares the details of Rupa's illness, her unconventional decision to refuse chemotherapy, and the rapid decline in her health near the end. She talks about the heartbreaking realization that Rupa would not survive, despite her adamant belief that she would recover.
Clare also opens up about accessing end-of-life care as a same-sex couple, the logistics of managing her wife's care and raising two small children alone, and the disenfranchised grief she experienced before gay marriage was legalized.

#77 - Maria Margetts
In this enlightening episode, your host, Rosie Gill-Moss, is joined by Maria Margetts.
Maria opens up about her journey as a trans woman who began her transition after losing her wife, Mandy to ovarian cancer.
Maria shares their love story, their desire for a child and Mandy's eventual death. She discusses the challenges of raising their two adopted children, including a daughter with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
After Mandy's death, Maria joined a widow's support group which gave the courage to come out as trans.
What's lovely is the acceptance she's found both at work and within her family.
Maria also shares her pride in becoming an ambassador for WAY @widowedandyoung to support other LGBTQ members.
She offers a unique, yet also familiar (we all change, right?) insight into grieving a spouse who never knew her as she is now. Maria is funny, candid and utterly captivating, you'll love this one.
