What Got You There with Sean DeLaney: Beneath the Surface A podcast for high performers, deep thinkers, and those who refuse to live on autopilot. Every week, Sean DeLaney explores the ideas that don’t just make you better at what you do — but more connected to who you are. Through solo episodes and long-form conversations with world-class performers, thinkers, and creators, we go beneath the surface of success to ask the questions most people avoid: What if the version of you the world rewards... isn’t the version that makes you feel alive? Can ambition and inner peace coexist? How do you perform at your best — without abandoning yourself in the process? This show is a space to get honest. To let go of old scripts. To reconnect with what actually matters. And to explore how we live, create, lead, and perform — from the inside out. Not just for more success. But for deeper presence. Greater freedom. And a life that breathes. 🎧 Subscribe to join the journey. 📬 Connect at whatgotyouthere.com

What Got You There with Sean DeLaney - #235 Rich Diviney- Navy SEAL Commander on the 25 Attributes of Optimal Performance
play

02/28/21 • 67 min

Rich Diviney is a retired Navy SEAL commander. In a career spanning more than twenty years, he completed more than thirteen overseas deployments—eleven of which were to Iraq and Afghanistan.

As the officer in charge of training for a specialized command, Diviney spearheaded the creation of a directorate that fused physical, mental, and emotional disciplines. He led his small team to create the first ever “Mind Gym” that helped special operators train their brains to perform faster, longer, and better in all environments—especially high-stress ones.

During his twenty years as a Navy SEAL, Commander Diviney was intimately involved in the world-renowned SEAL selection process, which whittles exceptional candidates down to a small selection of the most elite optimal performers.

He was often surprised by which recruits washed out and which succeeded. Someone could have all the right skills and still fail, while recruits he might have initially dismissed would prove to be top performers.

Through years of observation, Diviney learned to identify a successful recruit's core Attributes, the innate traits for how a person performs as an individual and as part of a team. That same methodology can be used by anyone in their personal or professional lives.

In his book, he details the key Attributes for success-- including cunning, adaptability, even narcissism--are defined in fresh and surprising ways, and Diviney shows how they can be applied to a team as readily as a person.

Understanding your own attributes and those of the people around you can fast-track optimal performance in all areas of your life.

What Got You There with Sean DeLaney - #115 Jason Khalipa- CrossFit World Champion/ Global Businessman
play

02/24/19 • 54 min

Jason Khalipa's actions and accomplishments speak for themselves: devoted father, world champion, and global businessman. After years of rigorous training, Jason earned the title of Fittest Man on Earth and finished first in the 2008 CrossFit Games. His hard work and insatiable drive paid off, and his company, NCFIT, grew to success. Jason thought he had overcome insurmountable obstacles throughout his career, but nothing prepared him for the moment when his daughter, Ava, was diagnosed with leukemia. Tasked with facing what no parent should have to confront, he had two choices: succumb to overwhelming anger, or jump headfirst into the fight. He chose the latter.

In his first book, As Many Reps As Possible (AMRAP), Jason reveals the invaluable principles that helped him and his wife dedicate every minute of their lives to Ava's battle. The backbone of Jason's success is a simple and accessible process that, with dedication, will help you take control of life, harness your true potential, and triumph in every way. Borrowing from the fitness idea of completing as many reps as possible of an exercise in a given time period, Jason developed The AMRAP Mentality, a proven system that will help you discover your why, focus on what you can control, work hard, and ultimately blow past your goals. With clear insight, personal anecdotes, and directed reader exercises, this book will help you get where you're going, wherever that may be. Be prepared to dream big, dig in your heels, roll up your sleeves, and get to work.
