Truth Not Trends - #90: 10 Things You MUST KNOW About Strength Training!

#90: 10 Things You MUST KNOW About Strength Training!

06/14/21 • 44 min

Truth Not Trends

Join the TNT crew as we discuss 10 Things we know about strength training, a.k.a. what we've learned after years and years of experience.

When science looks at various strength training techniques, muscle protein synthesis, frequency of training, and the like, these are the conclusions, and they form our base of knowledge as it relates to resistance training.

Many of these recommendations may seem at odds with common training methods (the kind that you hear from a trainer or gym bro). Listen closely, and more importantly, apply what you've learned. You're likely to be pleasantly surprised.

#89: Mike Petrella's Ontario Experiment!

This week we are joined by Michael Petrella, Mike Perilli, and Mike Marzanek, as they discuss in detail their attempts to recreate the legendary Colorado Experiment. The Colorado Experiment was a bodybuilding experiment featuring Casey Viator and run by Arthur Jones using Nautilus equipment at Colorado State University in May, 1973.

The first subject, Casey Viator gained as much as 63 pounds of muscle in 28 days and the second, Arthur Jones, gained 15 pounds in 22 days. It is of interest due to its claims that incredible results can be achieved with a small number of sessions (only 14 workouts) and using single sets of high intensity repetitions to momentary muscle failure focusing primarily on negative or lowering multi-joint exercises.
