Talking Keith Floyd, keto diets and very strange sandwich habits with Michelle Beck.
08/15/22 • 33 min
Michelle Beck is the founder of the Taunton Independent Market which runs monthly in the town centre. After launching just days before COVID-19 hit the country, it has been a tough journey for Michelle, but persistence and a strong belief in the community's willingness to support local traders kept her going and the footfall for the 60 plus stall holders that visit the town each month is growing. Join me as we chat about fave foods, strange food habits, keto diets and how grandparents play a key role in our early relationship to food.
In this episode's Nugget of Knowledge, Michael and I consider whether we really need to drink as much water as we are led to believe.
Guest: Michelle Beck of Taunton Independent Markets

From teenage body angst to pioneering modern-day salads with @madeleinesmeals, plus a recipe demo and taste test!
Maddie Dampier is a young woman with a passion for salads. After growing up eating not much else other than baked beans, she realised that the only way to ensure a healthly approach to her diet was to embark on a 'side hustle' to create and share her unique salad ideas on social media. With a large and growing audience on Instagram, Maddie is forging ahead with her ideas and hopes what she posts will inspire others to a mindful and healthy approach to food. After all, as she says, it is a myth that healthy food is difficult and expensive! On the Nugget of Knowledge I demo one of Maddie's recent offerings and then Michael taste tests if and gives it a huge thumbs up.

Surviving COVID in The Falklands and the horror of Domestic Science lessons with Detective Constable Helen Taylor.
After growing up in Devon and a career in the MET Police, my guest travelled nearly 13,000km across the world to live and work in The Falklands Islands. What was it like to live, work (and eat) on this remote island during the COVID pandemic? Did school-days Domestic Science lessons help her survive? Or did a life of shift work and it's associated poor eating habits leave Detective Constable Helen Taylor playing 'chicken' to see who in the household was going to cook the next meal?
Michael and I then discuss and applaud the humble chickpea in Nugget of Knowledge and we also taste test some chickpea snacks... are they really an alternative to a bag of crisps?
Guest: Detective Constable Helen Taylor, Stanley, The Falkland Islands
Host: Lynne O'Halloran
