The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast - Episode 128 - Baby Loss Awareness Week - Amy Shares her Experience of Stillbirth

Send us a text

In this week's episode, I wanted to honour Baby Loss Awareness Week by re-posting episode 30 with Amy from The Lily Mae Foundation, who shares her experience of discovering her baby had no heartbeat, and how she went through the process of birth.
This episode also includes how Amy and her husband moved forward and how it felt for them to continue to grow their family.
Recorded in 2021, she candidly describes what it feels like to support others who are going through the devasting loss of a baby or medical termination.
This is such an important topic that so many struggle to discuss due to its very nature, but I wanted to ensure that we cover all aspects of antenatal preparation on this podcast.
If you experience the loss of a child at any stage of pregnancy or birth, then you can seek support from organisations like Amy's.
The Lily Mae Foundation is a charity that works tirelessly to provide support to anyone who experiences stillbirth, miscarriage, neonatal death or medical termination.

The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast - Episode 138 - 5 Essential Steps to Consider When Hiring a Doula for Your Birth
play

12/22/24 • 43 min

Send us a text

In the last episode of 2024 - I am bringing you another solo episode where I pull up my big girl pants, and bravely admit that earlier this year I had a complaint made against me.
I am so passionate about my work and the support I offer, that I wanted to share a little bit about this experience, and highlight some essential steps you can take, if you are considering hiring a doula. My wish is that on the back of this episode - no confusion about the relationship between client and doula, will take place for anyone else.
As awareness about doulas becomes more widespread, there is no doubt that medical professionals are quick to blame women who hire them, for any negative outcomes that may arise - even though anyone can experience physical complications, give birth to a poorly baby or experience a loss.
So, if you decide that you would like to accept care from the NHS or similar, and you know the benefits of hiring a doula - then consider these 5 additional recommendations that may go a long way to ensuring that you have the support you want - not only from your doula, but your family and friends, and care providers.
Please share this episode widely so that others can benefit from knowing more about the role of doulas.

In this powerful episode of The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast, we dive into a topic that may challenge how you think about birth support: the role of a doula or birthkeeper. While many believe our job is to shield you from the medical system, the truth is more complex.

In this episode, we’ll cover:

  • The true role of a birthkeeper or doula
  • Why self-trust is the ultimate protection
  • Navigating the system vs. navigating yourself

The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast - Episode 97 - Part One - Breaking Generational Trauma and The Art of Re-Parenting
play

Send us a text

In this weeks episode, I am chatting with Magdalena Finn about the journey she went on when planning to give birth to her son.
She candidly shares how she was able to break the generational trauma that her mother and grandmother experienced, which allowed her to have such a positive birth for both her and her son.
In addition, we talked about how surprised she felt as her son grew, and she found some of the normal toddler behaviours really triggering for her - and what she was able to do about it, by re-parenting herself.
This has been pivotal in her life and she has a wide range of tools that she talks about to support her nervous system, which I am sure you will find helpful.
I hope you enjoy this deeply inspiring episode.

The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast - Episode 86 - Georgie's story - First Time Mum's Homebirth with Low PAPP A

In this week's episode, I am chatting to Georgie who gives us a full and frank account of her preparation for birth and the journey she went on when deciding how and where to have her baby. She also explains why she felt it was so important to prepare her partner.
Georgie describes the way she discovered she had low PAPP A and how she was able to advocate for herself when choosing to decline an induction of labour - which was the recommendation by her care provider.
This fabulous story of a beautiful birth experience, was carried over into the postnatal period where we hear what she learned in those early days as a new mum.
I was delighted to get to chat to Georgie again and re-cap on her story. There is no doubt that her confidence grew as she learned more about her options, and she developed her own philosophies of birth that felt right for her and her partner.

In this weeks episode, I answer many of the questions that were sent to me.
These are:-
What do you think is the most important thing to bring with you on your pregnancy journey?
What is your top care provider red flag.
My doula was not what I hoped they would be and I am pregnant again. Should I hire a different doula to support me this time or not? What do I do if the midwives don’t come to my homebirth - my husbands fears keep rising up and I don't know how to reassure him.
My nipples are flat, am I still ok to breastfeed my baby?
What do you recommend we do to prepare for Postpartum? Is there any particular things you would suggest we do during pregnancy?

In this episode of the podcast, we begin exactly where we left off last week, with Hayley and Katja sharing the details of their healing home birth. Baby Isabelle was born safely after a previous traumatic birth, but Hayley knew instinctively that she needed some support. After a wonderful golden hour, everyone began to notice that Hayley wasn't herself, and was showing signs of deterioration.
Find out what happened next, in this wonderful episode. Their story goes a long way to show that traumatic situations do not always cause birth trauma. During this experience, where Hayley felt supported, empowered, and respected, she felt in control of all decisions that were made about her care, making the birth and postpartum incredibly positive overall.
