MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT
As part of TITT Talks' women supporting women initiative, each month TITT Talks will spotlight a member of the community. In this video, you will be introduced to Proud Usacharoenporn. She is a lawyer and business litigation partner. In her spare time, she uses her graphic design skills to raise funds for two wonderful, non-profit organizations: The Little Red Dog and The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, Inc. The Little Red Dog rescues dogs from high-kill shelters across Southern California, rehabs them through behavior training, and finds them forever homes. Proud has fostered several dogs for this rescue and has adopted one! In exchange for a donation to @thelittlereddog, Proud will create for you a personalized portrait of your pet to cherish furever and ever.
Proud has also written and illustrated a children’s book called “Panda-Emic” to benefit The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, Inc.’s fund for COVID relief. The story is intended to give parents a way to explain the pandemic to their young children, to spread solidarity, and to inspire positivity. It details the story of five friends who are forced to stay apart because of the “Panda-Emic,” a pandemic started by the pandas that rocks the animal world. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy supports other worthy non-profits that help healthcare workers and especially vulnerable population, such as Americares, CARE, and Feeding America. If you make a donation to The Center, Proud will send you a copy of her book, “Panda-Emic” for you and your family to enjoy. You can donate/purchase here.

ABOUT TITT TALKS
TITT Talks was “conceived” in January of 2020 during one of TITT’s many friend/family (“framily”) get-togethers. In conversation, it came to light that there was a lack of representation of womxn like TITT in, among other forms of media, the podcast world. In particular, there was no podcast that TITT could subscribe to that would enable them to feel seen, heard, or understood as modern Asian Pacific American working mothers.
The womxn of TITT Talks knew that this void was one they could fill by sharing their voices and experiences through their casual conversations, which were already taking place on a routine basis.
Thank you for the positive feedback we have received since our launch in early June 2020. We are delighted to hear that we are bringing you content that you can finally relate to as mothers, professionals, millennials, and Asian Pacific Americans.

LBKs a.k.a. Lady Boner Killers
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
07/08/20 • 59 min
Welcome to the second half of 2020! May it be better than the first.
Please grab a strong cocktail or two and join us for our third episode as we settle in and exchange stories about a lighthearted topic that is near and dear to our hearts - LBKs a.k.a Lady Boner Killers! We have all experienced them: that feeling when a romantic interest says or does something that throws a bucket of ice-cold water on a fiery attraction. LBKs can take any form: they can be statements, they can be personality traits, and they can be a terrible pair of shoes. In this episode, we welcome our first guest, our beloved friend Brianna Menke. We trade tales from our pasts (some comical, some relatably disappointing) that have enabled us to collectively identify our most dreaded LBKs. We’d love to hear some of yours! Connect with us through the links below!

TITT Talks Supports Black Lives Matter
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
06/10/20 • 5 min
- In July 2014, Eric Garner, a 43 year-old unarmed black man, was killed when a New York City police officer placed him in a chokehold after Garner questioned the officer as to why he was being harassed.
- In March 2018, Stephon Clark, a 22 year-old unarmed black man, was shot and killed by two officers of the Sacramento Police Department in the backyard of his grandmother's house while he had a phone in his hand. The officers stated that they shot Clark, firing 20 rounds, believing that he had pointed a gun at them. Police found only a cell phone on him.
- In September 2018, an off-duty Dallas Police Department patrol officer entered the apartment of Botham Jean, a 26 year-old unarmed black man, and fatally shot him. The officer said that she had entered the apartment believing it was her own and that she shot Jean, believing he was a burglar.
- In February 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old black man, was fatally shot in Glynn County, Georgia, while jogging. Arbery had been pursued and confronted by two white men, a father and son, who were armed and driving a pickup truck. The father was a former police officer, and his son shot Arbery at point-blank range with a shotgun. The event was recorded on video by a third white man, who was following Arbery in a second vehicle. No arrests were made until May 7, two days after the video of Arbery’s shooting went viral.
- In March 2020, Breonna Taylor, an unarmed 26-year-old black woman, was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers. The officers forced entry into her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky under the authority of a no-knock search warrant. Gunfire was exchanged between the LMPD officers and Taylor's boyfriend, who believed that the officers were intruders. The LMPD officers fired over twenty shots, and Taylor was killed after being shot eight times.
- In May 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old unarmed black man, was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota during an arrest for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. A white police officer knelt on Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down in the street, begging for his life and repeatedly saying "I can't breathe."
These are only a fraction of the stories of which we know. These stories are only a minuscule fraction of the abuses that have actually occurred against the Black community as the result of senseless police brutality.
We are Asian American Pacific Islander women. While we face our own societal obstacles based on our race alone, we absolutely recognize that those disadvantages will never compare to the fear that the Black community faces on a daily basis. We do not live in fear that we, or our loved ones, will be killed for asking why a police officer has pulled us over, while going on a jog, for using a cell phone, or while simply existing in our own homes.
As women of color, as mothers, and as humans, we cannot remain silent when confronted with the reality that any person has to live with this fear. We have an obligation to proactively contribute to positive change, whether by marching, donating, signing petitions, educating ourselves on Black history and experiences, and speaking out against racism in any form. We unequivocally believe that Black lives matter and that there cannot peace until there is justice for all.
In this episode, we discuss our thoughts on the current climate of race relations in America and our call to action in light of the most recent atrocities committed against the Black community. We hope you will share yours with us as well.

How SHE Built This: Lisa Tran of Tan Tan Foods
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
03/25/21 • 30 min
For this How She Built This episode, it is our honor to present to you . . . Lisa Tran! First, for us, our recent friendship with Lisa is the embodiment of the benefits of networking. TLo met Lisa on Clubhouse, and TLo subsequently introduced us all to Lisa. We have become enamored with not only Lisa, but we have also become enamored with her story, her family, and her family’s story. In this episode of HSBT, Lisa regales Chuk with her journey of turning vision into action by developing Tan Tan Foods sauce line, which she did with the goal of being able to generate consistent income while also being able to spend substantial mommy time with her precious twins. Lisa also discusses how Tan Tan’s sauces were created with her mother’s recipes and gained popularity amongst the customers of her family’s restaurant – Tan Tan Café & Delicatessen! More importantly, Lisa shares her own story of being born as a Vietnamese refugee in Indonesia, how her mother refined her sauce-making skills in the same refugee camp, and her parents’ love story that was borne during their escape from Vietnam – all of which laid the foundation for Lisa to create Tan Tan’s sauce empire and to introduce the wonder of her mom’s Vietnamese recipes to the American general public. (Tan Tan’s sauces are carried in major grocery store chains like New Seasons Markets, H Mart, and coming soon to Safeway/Albertsons – she is kind of a big deal.) We could go on and on, but you should really just listen to the episode! We cannot wait for you to learn more about Lisa! Find her at @tantanfoods and tantancafedeli.com. You can also learn more about her in her features in @entrepreneur and @bonappetit magazines!

TITT Talks Supports 2020 Census Asian Week of Action - in Partnership with the Asian Podcast Network
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
08/26/20 • 1 min
We’d like to share a message with you about the 2020 Census. The Census is our American way of counting everyone living in the United States to determine how resources are allocated and how decisions are made. Decisions like funding for schools, roads, public services, and healthcare. Businesses also use this data to decide whether to open up new stores in our neighborhoods.
This week, along with other fellow Asian organizations across the country, member shows of the Asian Podcast Network like TITT Talks are proud to participate in the 2020 Census Asian Week of Action.
If you haven’t, take a moment to go to 2020census.gov to fill out yours for your household. This is our last chance for the next 10 years and the deadline is fast approaching.
It just takes minutes and can make a decade of impact. We also encourage you to check in with your family and friends to make sure they do the same.
Let’s make sure the voices of our amazing community are heard loud and clear and participate in the 2020 Census.
Let’s Get Counted and shape our future, here and now.

How SHE Built This: Ladies Of Sound
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
10/01/21 • 61 min
Join us for another episode of TITT Talks: How She Built This! This week, we are featuring Ladies Of Sound (@ladiesofsound.la) founders Maricel Sison (@msison) and Samantha Garong (@sammi.g_). This spin-off series is meant to intimately discuss the journey of building a business as a female entrepreneur. These types of conversations inspire us and we hope they do the same for you as well.
For the first time in the HSBT series all four TITTS sit down in the Ladies of Sound headquarters with Maricel and Sammi as they simultaneously produce this special episode and take us through their experience on how they found a passion for music and throwing events, which led them on a path to creating space and a community for women in the music industry. Ladies of Sound is the official women's division of the Beat Junkies Institute of Sound. Their platform is made to support women in the DJ and music industry.
Utilizing their talents, they have worked through challenges, have had some big wins, pandemic pivots and talk about all of these experiences with TITT Talks. In an otherwise male dominated world, Ladies of Sound has worked from an 8% enrollment of women in the Beat Junkies Institute of Sound classes to 56% as of 2021. Listen in to hear more about their inspiring story as minority women entrepreneurs creating opportunities for other women and inspiring a future generation of women in music.
It has always been our mission to connect with other modern women through the lens of our experience. We hope you enjoy this series as much as we do!
Connect with the Ladies of Sound and support their business at the following links. It is so important now, more than ever, to support not only our local small businesses but our AAPI-owned small businesses.

Anti-Asian Hate Roundtable with Raising Compassionate Leaders
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World

We are joined by two board members of Raising Compassionate Leaders (rcleaders.com): Justine Bautista, PhD student in Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine and Dr. Kristine Yi, clinical psychologist specializing in cross-cultural work in families. Together, we begin to explore the foundations of Asian hate, its effect on our AAPI community, and resources to overcome these barriers together. This is just one of the many conversations we will have surrounding the greater scope of racism.

Growing Up Asian Pacific American
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
06/10/20 • 32 min
Welcome to the very first episode of TITT Talks – Growing Up Asian Pacific American! We recorded this episode nearly three months ago, but given the surge of social unrest surrounding the topic of race, we felt it was important to launch the podcast with this as our first episode. While we directly discuss matters of our own #aapi identities, our hearts are with the black community. We collectively must do our part to rise against the injustice in this world. Together, with action and self-education, we can create a world of equality and justice today and for the next generation. #blacklivesmatter
