Keeping Love Alive with Emily and Adam
02/10/21 • 35 min
In this episode I have my favorite person on with me, my husband, Adam! We dive in to how we've survived 19 years together and what we feel we've done well to keep our love alive. We are NOT perfect, and we are honest about that. After getting questions from the audience, we compiled ways we've been able to work through different seasons. It's clear we will need to do a second episode at some point, hehe. Valentine's Day is just around the corner and we want to offer encouragement to all the couples! TUNE IN!

Let's Talk About Anxiety
Many of us are overburdened with information today. Constantly bombarded with anything and everything going on around us. How will we be able to truly live our lives if we are stuck consuming and muddling through the emotions and thoughts of other things? Today’s episode is all about anxiety, a topic close to my heart, my hope is this will help you!
As someone who deals with anxiety, and has for most of my life. I’ve had to learn to cope with my reality, the false reality that begins to form, and the reality I desire. In my experience, anxiety begins to take hold when I am living in a false reality. What do I mean by this?
I really mean, my thoughts. Our thoughts can create the reality we are living in whether or not it is true. Our thoughts allow our mind to respond to something as if it is actually taking place.
Anxiety is REAL, but it can be manufactured by ourselves. Armed with this knowledge, we can begin to alter and shift our thoughts to counter the approach of a triggering activity.
What are triggering activities? These are different for everyone. Our brain has been trained to respond to different situations in different manners. Therefore, we have to be conscious enough to understand how we feel and WHY we feel that way.
Anxiety is a secondary emotion, meaning it is a reactionary emotion stemmed from something primary
We dive into FIVE ways to redirect anxiety and manage it well...
Let’s talk about how we can help calm our anxiety:
1 - Learn to be patient.
2 - Recognize your triggers
3 - Take Care of Yourself Physically
4 - Be Mindful of What You Are Thinking About
5 - Give Yourself Grace
Anxiety is not something that has to dictate our lives. Our minds are capable of managing, and Christ can bear all our burdens. Don’t forget what the Word says in Philippians present ALL concerns to Christ. No matter how out of sight they may seem.
We dive into a story of Paul in Corinthians that sums up how I tend to frame my sessions of depression in a way that gives me TRUTH perspective.
Sometimes, the best we can do is lean into the resources we have in our lives. Be that people like counselors, pastors, or loved ones. Giving ourselves boundaries, taking care of ourselves physically, praying and learning patience.
If you are walking through the valley of anxiety right now, there is a way out, and I pray you find it. But in the meantime, don’t miss what God may have for you right where you are.

Living with PTSD and Trauma with author Kim Lengling
Living with PTSD and/or trauma is a DAILY walk. On this episode of The Thought Vault Podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with author Kim Lengling about her journey of walking through life with PTSD and learning how to choose daily to battle the trauma that has been part of her journey.
With Christ, trauma and PTSD can be something that deepens your relationship with God and your understanding of Him.
While we can't always control what our circumstances are or why situations become part of our story, we CAN control how we live our lives afterwards. This journey is NOT easy, but there is hope in the brokenness that is sometimes woven into our stories on this side of Heaven.
It's okay to NOT be okay.
If there is one thing I've learned, it's that there is no rulebook for dealing with our lives in a uniform manner. We have to be okay with not being okay. The only comfort sometimes is knowing that God IS PRESENT, and He is understanding of all the hurt we may feel.
We serve a relatable God. Unlike most other religions, we are invited into a personal relationship with our creator. We won't always have the answers we think we need, and that's a place for our relationship with God to provide.
When facing trauma, we may seek out the answer to the question of "why?" and it can be overwhelming and all encompassing. In this episode, we discuss this difficult aspect of trauma.
If you are walking through life with trauma and/or PTSD, this episode may offer some comfort.
