#630: Not one size fits all: Medical Minute
Do you know how much sleep you need? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Over the years, Americans have become sleep deprived. Back in the 1970s the average adult slept for 8.5 hours, but today we’re lucky to get 7 hours of sleep. The average adult needs 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep per night. So if you’re only sleeping 6 hours a night – that means you’re missing at least 45 hours of sleep per month and YES it does add up! Unfortunately, our kids are suffering too. Parents need to be sure their infants are sleeping about 16 hours and their teens at least 9 hours. Sleep plays a very important role in development as well as continued good health. Can’t sleep? Well, start with a long walk, followed by a warm bath, and topped off with a cool dark room and a comfortable bed. If you try all these things and still no luck – it’s time for a physical exam to make sure there isn’t an underlying medical condition. There's so much to know about living healthy... and that's why you can find all of our Medical Minutes and The Staying Young Radio Show at STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Let us help you live better, live longer! Join me, at STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM
