Beyond Behaviors Episode 6
10/10/23 • 42 min
This week we're covering chapter six of Beyond Behaviors by Dr. Mona Delahooke. This chapter is called "Working on Challenges from the Body Up to the Top Down." We cover the four steps to identifying and addressing causes of challenging behaviors, building the bridge from co-regulation to self-regulation, relational strategies, addressing developmental challenges, using play as a neural exercise, and helping the children we work with develop top-down thinking. This chapter is full of helpful strategies and once again, pushes us to change our perspective on challenging behaviors. Enjoy!

Beyond Behaviors Episode 5
This week we're discussing chapter five of Beyond Behaviors by Dr. Mona Delahooke. This chapter is called "Addressing What Underlies Behavior: Working on Challenges from the Bottom Up." We discuss how to dig deeper and find the triggers when a child presents with challenging behaviors. We go over how to collect a thorough case history and track behaviors to find patterns. We also discuss tracking children's stress loads in real time, using sensory preferences to help children calm their physical bodies, and mindfulness exercises we can use with children to help them become aware of their body and mind signals. We start out this episode with our thoughts on accepting insurance vs. private pay when you work in private practice. Hope you get something out of this episode!
