Think back to when you were young. Do remember who your first role model was? A role model could be someone different from someone you admire. Me, I admired sports figures. Growing up in Canada, I was a huge Montreal Canadiens fan and that era featured Guy Lafluer. Now I idolized Guy and while I wanted to be like him when hockey didn’t pan out I was left with a hollow role model because really it was all about hockey and nothing more. I didn’t know any more about him. Remember this was the 70s there were no google or social media. But what about today? Sure those things exist but how can we make a sports figure a role model and should they even be one? Well today, we are going to unpack the importance for men young and old to have male role models.
Dylan Roos is a master NLP practitioner, accredited health coach and masculinity coach. Dylan mentors young men through his flagship program "Prince to King."
Dylan has worked extensively in the men's space for 4 years now and is passionate about reshaping masculinity for the modern man.
In this episode we discuss...
- why role models especially males are important
- what young men are struggling with today
- why toxic masculinity is not the focus
- what men wish women knew
- attributes of a role model
- Prince-to-king work

A Firefighter's Journey From PTSD with Nick Wingo
Let me know your thoughts on the show and what topic you would like me to discuss next.
On average, 100 firefighters lose their lives in the line of duty. However, that number doubles when it comes to firefighters who end up committing suicide. That is an alarming leap, and that is only a number that has been recorded. There are far more that go on to end their lives and are never recorded. The leading cause of suicide happens to be PTSD. In today’s episode, I interview Nick Wingo a retired firefighter and PTSD survivor as he shares his hero’s quest that lead him to form Build Grit where he guides men on how to fight the fires of PTSD.
Have you seen things in your life that you can’t unsee? Do you have a path to finding your way out of these images?
No one wants to see the horrors of life yet some occupations are inherent to them. For the most part, these occupations are predominantly male and without a resource to help them, many struggles with parts of their career while others feel the only way out is to end it all. But there is hope as my guest today is about to share his story.
Nick Wingo spent the early part of his life as a firefighter paramedic where he saw things that most people could never even understand. After retiring as a firefighter Nick has put his passion into conquering his PTSD and helping others to do the same.
He then began coaching men through some of the battles we face by becoming in sync with our inner selves and practising breathing techniques. Nick was able to heal himself from trauma and uses his trauma as a factor in helping out men today.
In this episode we discuss...
- how to peel back the layers and heal your trauma
- how to manage panic attacks
- the pillars of GRIT
- how to get back into alignment with yourself
- breaking through limiting beliefs
