You wake up every day, smile, and do your best to live a perfect life. Then one day you wake up and realize that all of this striving is leaving you emotionally drained, stressed out and depressed. That’s when you ask yourself, “Is this worth the effort?” Well today, my guest discovered that it wasn’t worth it and instead shifted his focus from living a perfect life to finding ideal happiness.
How do you define happiness? Now, based on your definition, how close are you to living it?
How we define happiness gives us an idea of what we think about ourselves and the measures we use to determine our happiness. But what if those measurements are off? Well today, my guest shares with us his journey from what he perceived as living a perfect life to finding happiness.
Todd Patkin has been in the happiness business since 2011. He has written books and created audio material on happiness. He has toured the country teaching his Twelve Weeks to Happiness program. A Firefighter's Journey From PTSD with Nick Wingo
Let me know your thoughts on the show and what topic you would like me to discuss next.
On average, 100 firefighters lose their lives in the line of duty. However, that number doubles when it comes to firefighters who end up committing suicide. That is an alarming leap, and that is only a number that has been recorded. There are far more that go on to end their lives and are never recorded. The leading cause of suicide happens to be PTSD. In today’s episode, I interview Nick Wingo a retired firefighter and PTSD survivor as he shares his hero’s quest that lead him to form Build Grit where he guides men on how to fight the fires of PTSD.
Have you seen things in your life that you can’t unsee? Do you have a path to finding your way out of these images?
No one wants to see the horrors of life yet some occupations are inherent to them. For the most part, these occupations are predominantly male and without a resource to help them, many struggles with parts of their career while others feel the only way out is to end it all. But there is hope as my guest today is about to share his story.
Nick Wingo spent the early part of his life as a firefighter paramedic where he saw things that most people could never even understand. After retiring as a firefighter Nick has put his passion into conquering his PTSD and helping others to do the same.
He then began coaching men through some of the battles we face by becoming in sync with our inner selves and practising breathing techniques. Nick was able to heal himself from trauma and uses his trauma as a factor in helping out men today.
In this episode we discuss...
- how to peel back the layers and heal your trauma
- how to manage panic attacks
- the pillars of GRIT
- how to get back into alignment with yourself
- breaking through limiting beliefs
