Stop Listening To Everyone

Stop Listening To Everyone

Stop listening to everyone, because you’re hearing no one.

The online business space is LOUD and the noise can be deafening at times, especially if you’re listening to multiple people, multiple voices and multiple, often conflicting advice and points of view.

Listening to and following everyone causes you to have too many things and too many voices swimming about in your noggin which leads to all the gremlins rearing their ugly heads.

Cue overwhelm, self doubt, procrastination and all their friends.

Which is not the best mindset to be when you’re running a business and trying to get stuff done.

Everywhere you look there will be someone telling you that their specialism, platform or strategy is THE one thing you need to get you where you want to be, that without it you ‘don't have a business.’

It’s exhausting.

I remember when I first started my business I was absorbing all the things. I was trying to be on all the platforms, listen to all the free advice, investing in all the programmes and...doing not a whole lot of anything to be honest.

I was confused and felt pulled in all directions with no one clear focus.

Thankfully I recognised it fairly quickly.

I recognised that to get to where I wanted to go I needed to cut out the noise and find ‘my’ people.

There are a lot of ‘guru’s’ in this industry who don’t always have the best of intentions and will use all those sleazy tactics that you’re avoiding doing because it gives you the ick.

It’s time for an audit!

I regularly check in with who is taking up space in my feed, groups, my inbox and serving me ads to make sure the noise levels are right for me, and it’s from the right people.

It’s not going to happen overnight but when you really start to analyse if who you’re following are a good, positive influence on you and your mindset...or a negative one then things will become much clearer, more focussed and more strategic, and you’re more likely to actually take action with a few less gremlins in the way.

Pick your own platforms.

Where are YOUR ideal clients?

I know everyone and his wife are saying Linkedin is the new buzz platform for 2019 for example...but if that’s not where YOUR ideal client is and you’re not looking for corporate gigs, then is it the right platform for you? Probably not!

So there’s some noise you can cut out.

It doesn’t mean you’re saying you’re NEVER going to use it, it’s just not right for you right now.

Also where do YOU like being?

What is YOUR favourite platform to be on? If you like using it guess what? You’re more likely to use it!

If you’re trying to do things and be in places because other people say you ‘should’ but really you don’t want to...guess what’s going to happen?

Pushing water uphill time and your friend procrastination is going to get in your way big time!

Choose people based on your values.

What do you value in a person or in a business?

For me it’s honesty, authenticity and integrity, what you see is what you get, which for me creates trust.

That’s not going to be the same for everyone, but that’s what I look for in a person to follow.

The second I get a feeling in my gut that someone doesn’t fit that bracket they’re on my unfollow list.

I was at a big business seminar for 2 days last week and it was honestly, so refreshing.

The majority of speakers sold high ticket items from the stage but they were so HONEST about it!

They didn’t try to dupe, guilt or bully anyone into buying, they didn’t try to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes, they made fun of a lot of the sleazy tactics ...

Why perspective is the key to success

Why perspective is the key to success

So much in life and in your business is all down to perspective. It really is a key skill that if you learn it, can propel you to success in business AND in life.

According to the Oxford Dictionary Perspective is ‘A particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view’.

It’s also a ‘True understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion’.

Essentially it’s a way of thinking.

One is where you look at things based on your own experiences, values and beliefs. And the other is when you put things into perspective by creating a comparison to make sure you’re looking at things from all angles to create an accurate opinion.

BOTH are hugely important when it comes to the way you look at and the way you think about life and your business. It’s comes under the umbrella of emotional intelligence which is essentially being able to control and understand your own emotions.

Your thoughts, as we now know, literally shape your reality through creating your feelings and unconscious beliefs. And in turn influencing your actions, so you can see perspective is a pretty key skill to master in this game.

And one you can learn...whoop!

Based purely on your perspective, BIG things can seem small and tiny things can seem ENORMOUS...so you can see how this can have an effect on the way we’re feeling day to day.

Perhaps you think your launch has been a flop.

Or perhaps you feel like you’re not moving fast enough.

Or you’re not making enough money.

All those lovely little ‘OMG WHAT AM I GOING TO DO, THE WORLD IS ENDING’ dramatic moments that come as part of the territory.

Whatever it may be, basically, perspective is a highly valuable life skill to master!

In good times and not so good times.

It’s certainly something I use on a daily basis and keeps me on track.

When you can master it, it can change so much for you.

The times where you’re in the weeds struggling, the times where you feel like the only one dealing with what you’re dealing with, the times when you feel like a failure!

It helps you take a step back, take out the emotion and see something for what it actually is.

Perspective cuts out the lies that you tell yourself and highlights things that are more truthful and HELPFUL for you.

It helps you to see the opportunities that can often be right in front of you.

Without perspective it’s very easy to fall into ‘victim mode’ and nothing good ever happened from there!

It helps you open up your thinking and feeds a growth mindset so it helps drive you forwards instead of staying stuck.

I live my life believing that something good can always come from something that at the time feels or seems bad.

That is a very empowering way to live life and run a business.

The belief that everything happens for a reason, there’s always someone worse off than me, or has dealt with worse and come through the other side.

Or seeing people celebrate the little wins that I might not have even acknowledged. Very handy if you’re feeling like nothing is going right, right?!

It allows me to be more objective and not get caught up in the negative loops and spirals and take a step back and find another way to do things. And there’s always another way to do things!

It helps us remember that the way we see things is not always the way other people see things and vice versa which helps us seek out another perspective and again, help us to move forwards.

Perspective helps you realise what is actually important...and what’s not! So often I see people tie themselves in knots over things that actually really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but when it’s you in that moment it can feel huge.

Being able to have perspe...

How The Fear Of Success IS Holding You Back

How The Fear Of Success IS Holding You Back

Do you fear your own success?

You’re probably thinking, ‘WHAT? No, of course not, it’s everything i’m working towards why on earth would I fear getting everything I want, you crazy?’

Right?

Well, you might be surprised to know that this is one of THE most common fears that hold us back as business owners and often the hardest to spot for exactly that reaction.

Why WOULD you fear getting everything you’re working so hard for?

Well, on a conscious level you don’t really! That’s the problem

Fear of failure and fear of judgement are FAR easier to identify but the fear of success can be slightly more pesky.

There may be a few little sneaky unconscious drivers at play that need to be identified so they can be challenged and told ever so politely to stop getting in your way.

We’re all working and striving for success so why on earth would we sabotage ourselves based on something we actually want?

Sounds bonkers right?

Well, if unconsciously you think that getting the success that you want would affect your relationships, your friendships or anything else for that matter in a potentially negative way then it starts to become easier to see why this may happen.

Fear of success is also one of the BIG reasons that we procrastinate, and we can’t work out why.

How do I know if I have a fear of success?

So, how do you identify a fear of success...and overcome it?

To identify it look at your behaviours currently in your business and really start to challenge what you’re telling yourself about why you’re doing them. A lot of these won’t be in your conscious thoughts BUT the REASONS and EXCUSES you’re making will be.

Do you not finish tasks even though you know that if you did it could propel your business forward?

Do you procrastinate but it’s not because you don’t WANT to do something or are afraid of failing?

Are you easily distracted?

Do things start going really well and then all of a sudden things start going wrong all at the same time?

Fear of success can be HUGELY linked to your money story too.

If you believe that ‘Rich people are bad people’ or anything along those lines it’s really going to get in your way and your unconscious WILL sabotage you because...you don’t want to be a bad person right?

With success comes potential (inevitable) rejection too and maybe even some good old trolls, so if you don’t put yourself out there to be seen by lots of eyeballs then you’ll stay safe right?

A biggie is that you worry about change and fear the unknown when it comes to what it will mean for your life when you’re successful. Your brain loves certainty so it’s obviously going to try and keep you there as best it can.

How can I work out mine?!

There are a few common underlying thoughts that I see come up often with clients that may help you identify your own and a little reframe for each to help you think differently:

What if I get judged by or even lose my friends?

You may think on the surface you’re working towards everything you’ve ever wanted but the reality is not everyone will support you and that’s fine, you’ll learn who your real friends are.

Your relationships will evolve and the RIGHT people will stay right by your side and be proud of you.

There will be people who are jealous, you will highlight things in other people that they don’t like (not everyone would back themselves to do what you’re doing so kudos to you fo...
