40. Finding Yourself in Menopause with Angie Garton
The Pilates Goddess Podcast
12/08/22 • 47 min
I'm super excited about this episode, my friends! My friend Angie Garton is one of the UK's most sought-after menopause coaches, and I love her compassionate, science-based approach to helping women through the transition.
I've been in menopause since a total hysterectomy about 25 years ago, and stopped taking any HRT in 2016, so this conversation is right up my alley! We talk night sweats, hot flashes, inflammation, HRT, supplements, weight gain, and the role of nutrition and exercise.
Listeners can schedule a free 20 minute consultation with Angie (completely confidential), to provide some quick and effective advice on common issues such as low energy, sleep issues, emotional issues, low motivation, weight gain.
https://calendly.com/angiegarton/consultation?month=2022-10
About Angie:
Angie Garton provides menopause coaching to individuals and groups, and menopause consultation services to businesses and organisations, so that you can feel more like yourself again.
Her drive and enthusiasm come from wanting to provide real support, not just information. Having been part of the increasing awareness around menopause in the last ten years, she has seen a real need for us all to feel more hopeful and less fearful about the menopause transition.
Angie helps you to feel more confident and reassured in your approach to menopause, even if you're feeling stuck and overwhelmed right now.

78. The Language of Healing with Gwen Miller
The Pilates Goddess Podcast
04/20/23 • 53 min
The fabulous Gwen Miller is back! As a Balanced Body Pilates educator, author of the upcoming book, Safe Movement for All Spines - A Guide to Spinal Anatomy and How to Work with 21 Spine and Hip Conditions, and creator of The Dynamic Spine, a continuing education course for Pilates, yoga, and fitness professionals, Gwen is the perfect person to discuss the language of healing.
If you teach any kind of movement to people in pain, & struggle to create an inclusive, healing environment, today's episode will help.
About Gwen:
Gwen Miller is a certified Pilates teacher with over 20 years of experience, a registered yoga therapist, and a Hendrickson Method manual therapist.
After losing 80 pounds and rediscovering her health, Gwen Miller discovered that she had “degenerative disc disease” and “degenerative joint disease.” She was only forty!
Unfortunately, due to her prior obesity and poor posture, the discs between her spinal vertebrae had become compressed and worn thin, and this caused excessive wear-and-tear of Gwen's spinal vertebrae. It was shocking news. She had to change everything she was doing or my discs and spine would continue to degenerate.
That was when Gwen discovered Pilates. At first, it was just another certification to add to her ever-growing list of qualifications, but when she found that it was a system of exercise that she could do even with her degenerated spine, Gwen fell in love. So much so that twenty years later she's a Master Instructor for Balanced Body Pilates, an international Pilates education company.
Gwen has a reputation as a teacher who helps people, working with those who have spinal pathologies and other joint issues, or are healing from injuries or surgeries.

27. On the Latest Pilates Lawsuit
The Pilates Goddess Podcast
10/25/22 • 35 min
Yes, Sean Gallagher is at it again. After losing the Pilates trademark in an historic federal court decision, Sean's now suing over the social media sharing of historical Pilates images that he purchased.
This is a clear example of Brené Brown's power over vs. power with, as was his whole approach to the Pilates trademark - he doesn't understand why he should allow his competition to use the images.
Here I share my take on the first lawsuit, how it divided the Pilates community, and what we need to do now to move forward in a strong and collaborative way.

60. Find Evidence-based Facts Online with Eric Olson
The Pilates Goddess Podcast
02/16/23 • 40 min
If you've noticed the proliferation of fake news and advertising over the past 7 years, you're not the only one! Part of the problem is that all "free" search engines and social media companies are, at heart, advertising platforms. So your top results will be whoever paid the most, not necessarily the best results.
Today's guest, Eric Olson, is trying to change that with Consensus, a search engine that returns evidence-based results. Instead of wading through ads for pharmaceuticals and links to questionable science, you can get the actual facts quickly and easily.
We talk about fake news, the limitations of free, ad-based search engines, and how and why Eric came to develop Consensus. You'll hear some real world examples of how I used Consensus to get the information I needed on dosages of the anti-inflammatory supplements my doctor recommended I take for a knee injury, and learn how you can use Consensus to get the best information for working with your Pilates clients or understanding scientific research on any issue.
About Eric:
Eric Olson is a talented data science professional with a Master’s in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University. Before Consensus, Eric worked at the sports entertainment company DraftKings, where he was an Analytics Specialist building predictive machine learning models to understand the user base better. Eric came up with the idea for Consensus after spending years as a die-hard amateur science consumer and wanting access to better evidence-based information at the click of a button.
Eric formerly was a three-year starter for the Northwestern University Football team, is an avid skier, loves the outdoors, and hopes to convince NFL coaches someday never to punt again.
