The Pilates Goddess Podcast - 40. Finding Yourself in Menopause with Angie Garton
play

12/08/22 • 47 min

I'm super excited about this episode, my friends! My friend Angie Garton is one of the UK's most sought-after menopause coaches, and I love her compassionate, science-based approach to helping women through the transition.
I've been in menopause since a total hysterectomy about 25 years ago, and stopped taking any HRT in 2016, so this conversation is right up my alley! We talk night sweats, hot flashes, inflammation, HRT, supplements, weight gain, and the role of nutrition and exercise.
Listeners can schedule a free 20 minute consultation with Angie (completely confidential), to provide some quick and effective advice on common issues such as low energy, sleep issues, emotional issues, low motivation, weight gain.
https://calendly.com/angiegarton/consultation?month=2022-10
About Angie:
Angie Garton provides menopause coaching to individuals and groups, and menopause consultation services to businesses and organisations, so that you can feel more like yourself again.
Her drive and enthusiasm come from wanting to provide real support, not just information. Having been part of the increasing awareness around menopause in the last ten years, she has seen a real need for us all to feel more hopeful and less fearful about the menopause transition.
Angie helps you to feel more confident and reassured in your approach to menopause, even if you're feeling stuck and overwhelmed right now.

The Pilates Goddess Podcast - 60. Find Evidence-based Facts Online with Eric Olson
play

02/16/23 • 41 min

If you've noticed the proliferation of fake news and advertising over the past 7 years, you're not the only one! Part of the problem is that all "free" search engines and social media companies are, at heart, advertising platforms. So your top results will be whoever paid the most, not necessarily the best results.
Today's guest, Eric Olson, is trying to change that with Consensus, a search engine that returns evidence-based results. Instead of wading through ads for pharmaceuticals and links to questionable science, you can get the actual facts quickly and easily.
We talk about fake news, the limitations of free, ad-based search engines, and how and why Eric came to develop Consensus. You'll hear some real world examples of how I used Consensus to get the information I needed on dosages of the anti-inflammatory supplements my doctor recommended I take for a knee injury, and learn how you can use Consensus to get the best information for working with your Pilates clients or understanding scientific research on any issue.
About Eric:
Eric Olson is a talented data science professional with a Master’s in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University. Before Consensus, Eric worked at the sports entertainment company DraftKings, where he was an Analytics Specialist building predictive machine learning models to understand the user base better. Eric came up with the idea for Consensus after spending years as a die-hard amateur science consumer and wanting access to better evidence-based information at the click of a button.
Eric formerly was a three-year starter for the Northwestern University Football team, is an avid skier, loves the outdoors, and hopes to convince NFL coaches someday never to punt again.

I'm super excited about this interview! I've known Allan Menezes for about 30 years, and had clients who had great outcomes after working with him while they were working in Australia.
[Note that my audio has some echo. It's just when I speak. I apologize for that, and will fix it before my next interview.]
We talk about all the things - how a rugby injury led Allan to Pilates with Alan Herdman in London, opening the first studio in Australia, being a founding member of the PhysicalMind Institute, his experiences with Sean Gallagher during the trademark lawsuit, the dangers of neutral spine, and some new apparatus that Allan developed during pandemic isolation. We also discuss his new online Reformer course!
If you already have a comprehensive or reformer Pilates certification, you can use code MPRef050 to save 50% (proof of existing certification required) on this Reformer cec course. This exclusive half-price discount (he mentions 10% in the podcast) is just for The Pilates Goddess Podcast listeners!

The Pilates Goddess Podcast - 5. Pilates Doesn't Have To Be Complicated
play

08/09/22 • 28 min

I talk to so many potential clients who love simple and effective workouts, and steer clear of Pilates. Most recently, someone told me that she went to a studio and left feeling like Pilates had to involve equipment and was way too technical, so she's rather not do Pilates.
Yet, she loves my work and approach, which are distinctly Pilates.
Joe Pilates developed his work to be easy to do and teach! Yes, he was an inventor and came up with all kinds of awesome gizmos, but none of them are required, and most can be mimicked inexpensively (see episode 3).

The Pilates Goddess Podcast - 88. Supporting Women Athletes with Jamie Mittelman

It amazes me that women athletes are still underpaid, under supported, and under appreciated, even Olympians and Paralympians. Today I talk to Flame Bearers founder Jamie Mittelman, who is on a mission to make sure that people of all ages are inspired by women athletes who look and sound like them.
About Jamie:
A deep believer in the power of stories to change lives, Jamie Mittelman is deeply committed to elevating as many diverse voices as possible within the world of elite women’s sports. On the media side, Jamie managed a $30 Million portfolio for the conglomerate of Yahoo, The Huffington Post, AOL, and Verizon.

Flame Bearers is a community driving positive change, building connections, and creating a space where women athletes feel valued and empowered to share their stories.
