The Neuro Experience - The Power of Sprouts to Detoxify The Body with Doug Evans
play

01/13/22 • 59 min

Doug Evans is joining us today to speak about the powerful effects of sprouting. This conversation opened my eyes to the possibilities of sprouts. This compound is present in all cruciferous vegetables. In animal studies, when glucoraphanin is chewed or swallowed, it produces a cancer-protective compound SULFORAPHANE. This sulforaphane absorbs toxins from the body and flushes them out through urine.
The best way to get sulforaphane is to sprout your broccoli organic seeds in your own home. At between five and six days old, the sulforaphane in broccoli sprout contains up to 100 times more than in mature plant. The sprouts can also be used in smoothies, sandwiches, wraps or salad apart from juicing.

Broccoli sprouts are now readily available in major retail stores, but make sure you buy organic, non-GMO, or better still buy the seeds and sprout at home.

Doug is a pioneer in this space and in this episode we speak about sprouting peas, chick peas, beans and broccoli.

Our brains have been hijacked. We are now living in a world where we are sickened by our food system, the pandemic and of course our habits. It all starts with a bad night sleep- Getting enough sleep won’t just invigorate you; it could also help control how much you eat. A lack of sleep is linked to overeating—especially the overconsumption of junk food—which can lead to weight gain and increased inflammation.

Two hormones that help regulate hunger—ghrelin and leptin—are affected by sleep: Ghrelin stimulates appetite, while leptin decreases it. When the body is sleep-deprived, the level of ghrelin spikes, while the level of leptin falls, leading to an increase in hunger.
This cascade of events produces a cycle of bad decisions and the bad decisions lead to frustration, anger, resentment and selfishness.

Brain Wash: Detox Your Mind for Clearer Thinking, Deeper Relationships, and Lasting Happiness is co-authored by best-selling author David Perlmutter, MD and Austin Perlmutter, MD.

David is a Board-Certified Neurologist and five-time New York Times bestselling author. He serves on the Board of Directors and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Miami.

Austin is David’s son, who is a board certified internal physician who also graduated from the university of Miami. His academic focus is in understanding the decision-making process, how it is influenced by internal and external factors, and how it changes our health and illness outcomes. Austin, along with David Perlmutter, M.D., is the co-author of the newly released book, Brain Wash.

At the beginning of the show David and Austin give a detailed discussion about the science of inflammation from a neural perspective.
In this episode we discuss:
Neural Inflammation
Connection between sleep and increased hunger
The Neuroscience of decision making
How exercise impacts the brain for the better
What is sugar? Where can it be found?
What is sugars impact on brain function and cognitive performance?

Today I interview Michael Brandt- CEO and founder of HVMN- Health via modern nutrition and the research lead for his company- Dr Latt Mansor. Together, these two gentlemen are on a mission to solve many dysfuntions in the body and brain with the help of ketones.
Michael believes ketones are a nutritional primitive; a tool for everyone’s toolkit, akin to Omega-3, caffeine, or CBD. H.V.M.N. launched the world’s first ketone ester in 2017, secured a $6MM contract with U.S. Special Operations Command, and has since worked with elite athletes and researchers to determine the effects of its ketone formulas on everything from athletic performance to recovery to metabolic health and longevity.

H.V.M.N. recently announced their second generation of ketones, Ketone-IQ. You can use code NEURO to get 10% off!
