Podcast Q&A
Why did you start this show?
Mental health. I started this show originally because my wife needed to let out some anger she had about a certain church. But during that I had the idea to interview someone like Baphomet. IT eventually turned into interviewing the Grim Reaper. It was fun to write the script and put everything together, it kept me from falling into a depression so I decided to keep doing it. It has been amazing for my mental health and a great creative outlet.
What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?
I hope they learn something new because a lot of (not all) of the things said on the podcast are true. But I hope they just enjoy the fun novelty of speaking to some really cool pop culture icons that span a few thousand years. Maybe people will get a better appreciation for some of the classics. Honestly I just want people to smile. I know that won't be the case for all of the episodes but for most I hope it is.
Which episode should someone start with?
I recommend Conversations with Death. That one is my favorite I think. Though I also loved doing Jane Austen and Tinkerbell. But Death was really fun.
Which have been your favourite episodes so far?
Conversations with Death is the top. I loved writing about the grim reaper, less like a dark lonely entity and instead more of a hopeful viewer of humanity. A friendly face at the end who grieves with you. One who despite all of the destruction and death we have caused, still somehow is optimistic about humanity's future. It is heavily inspired by Neil Gaiman's Death from the Sandman comics. But for me, this death reminds me that humanity isn't all bad. There is hope that we can be better.
Which episode are you most proud of?
It hasn't been recorded yet. I'm supposed to be recording it today actually but probably Harambe. My friend said I should do it but as I started writing it I had no idea what to do or where to go with it. But in my research I found out that Wester Lowland Gorillas, a long with most of the great apes, were endangered. So I started writing about it from a Gorilla's point of view and how we can help. I'm proud of it because I'll be posting links to a bunch of non profits trying to help.
What is your vision for your show?
What I'd like to do is to maybe make money on the show. Enough to hire some friends to help me write and put the episodes together, and if needed to hire voice actors. Though admittedly I am having a lot of fun using just normal every day people.
What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?
Hands down my top three would be the Innocence Project, Well Behaved Women, and Dan Carlin's Hardcore History.
How did you come up with the name for your podcast?
I don't know. It has been my email for like over 10 years. When thinking of ideas for the podcast it sounded like a fun name so I used it. Then after starting doing the faux interviews the name weirdly fit so I decided it was perfect. But I have no memory of where the name came from or how I thought of it.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I'm a 32 year old guy trying to keep his mental health from deteriorating. Which is a full time job. But I love history, mythology, and I adore books. Honestly I am giant nerd who has a gift of gab so I'm trying to use that to make something I can be proud of.
