Senior Final Review - Mayo News Football Podcast 2020 E26

09/21/20 • 62 min

The Mayo Football Podcast
It's been the best Mayo Senior football Championship in ages and yesterday's final between Knockmore and Breaffy finished off the season in fine style. Ray Dempsey's hard-working, energetic Knockmore side are the SFC champions for 2020, their youthful zest and hunger to succeed proving too much for a Breaffy team who, once again, tasted defeat at the final hurdle. In this episode of the Mayo News football podcast we take you into MacHale Park for a taste of the action, as well as plenty of post-match reaction. Rob Murphy and Mayo News sports editor, Mike Finnerty anchor the show and they're joined in MacHale Park prior to throw-in by Edwin McGreal of Breaffy and the Mayo News and former Knockmore manager Eamon Clarke, as together they take us through the dramatic Moclair Cup decider. Post-game, Mike catches up with Knockmore's Kevin McLoughlin and Kieran Langan while Rob gets Ray Dempsey's reaction to his charges' title success. Finally, a rueful Edwin McGreal gives his overview of the game and reflects on yet another final that slipped out of Breaffy's grasp. This latest episode of the Mayo News football podcast is now online and is available to listen to on iTunes, SoundCloud, Spotify and Podomatic. You can also listen to it directly on the Mayo News website as well as on the Mayo GAA Blog. Club Finals - Intermediate and Junior Review - Mayo News Football Podcast 2020 E25

Over the weekend, the Mayo club football season reached its crescendo, with compelling finals played out in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Championships. The Mayo News football podcast was there, as it's been all summer, to catch the action, get the post-match reaction and analyse how the games were won and lost. In this first episode of two club final editions of the podcast we concentrate on the Intermediate and Junior deciders, which were played out at MacHale Park on Saturday night. Hosts Rob Murphy and Mike Finnerty, sports editor of the Mayo News, take you through the Intermediate final coverage, starting with snippets from the victory speech made by Ger Flanagan, Balla co-captain and podcast regular, following which we hear from the victorious Balla manager, Ger Butler. After that Mike is joined by Balla native Colin Sheridan and Edwin McGreal of the Mayo News to look back on Balla's win over Kiltimagh. Ger Flanagan joins in the chat too, giving his own perspective as a protagonist out on the pitch as the battle raged for possession of the Sweeney Cup. The discussion takes in the Junior final too, in which Kilmaine pipped Kilmeena by a single point. We also hear from Kilmaine's Brian Maloney and David O'Loughlin, with whom Mike caught up after that game had ended, with Kilmaine at last crowned the JFC champions.
