How can you say “no” to others with confidence? Why is saying “no” difficult? Saying “no” to others can be incredibly difficult for emerging leaders and managers. You might be a “people-pleaser”. However, if you want to advance into leadership, you need to learn how to set boundaries to protect your time, priorities and goals. In order to do this, you need to learn how to say “no” when you need to.
In Episode 10 of The Leadership Pod, you will learn what stops you from saying “no”, why it’s important for emerging leaders to say “no”, and how to say “no” to others.
In this episode, you will learn:
- How automatic conditioning stops you from saying “no”.
- The role that guilt, fear of offending and fear of being challenged plays in saying “no”.

[011] Secrets of Self-Promotion for Consultants and New Leaders
How can you be self-promotional when you’re a consultant or a new leader? Self-promotion doesn’t come naturally to many people. You might feel like you’re boasting or showing off. This might prevent you from being self-promotional in the workplace and around your clients. There is an art to being self-promotional, and that’s what I share with you in this episode.
In Episode 11 of The Leadership Pod, you will learn:
- How emerging leaders, women and people from technical backgrounds find it hard to be self-promotional.
- What holds us back from being self-promotional.
- Why you should be self-promotional.
- How to introduce yourself using my simple structure at networking events.
- How to talk about the value and results you generate.
- How to position yourself as an industry expert on LinkedIn using video and voice messaging.
STRUCTURE FOR INTRODUCING YOURSELF AT NETWORKING EVENTS
I shared with you a structure to introduce yourself effectively at networking events. This structure is simple, but it will help you highlight the value and results you bring your clients or your team.
Here is the structure:
“I help....[who]...so they can...[value/result]...”
For example:
“I help people who are going through a divorce to come to an mutual agreement so they can part amicably and with less stress”.
“I help mid-size businesses increase their efficiency by incorporating technology into their work processes”.
