The Jonathan Herzog Podcast

Assemblyman Evan Low, the openly gay trailblazing politician who represents Silicon Valley in the 28th Assembly District, joins the podcast.

Evan was chair of the California Legislative LGBT Caucus, the California Asian & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, and deemed "California's most prolific lawmaker."

Prior to his service in the Assembly, Low served as Mayor and City Councilmember in Campbell, California. Low was also named national co-chair of the Andrew Yang campaign for President in 2020.

Evan is an example of what's possible.

We talked about getting outed by the local paper, overcoming his first loss in his run for office, and finding his authentic voice and leadership, becoming many firsts in the nation as a young gay Asian-American elected official.

Social change is created by people with human brains and insecurities. If you're ready to unleash your capacity for change and leadership, join the community of gay men doing just that. JonathanHerzogCoach.com.

Jamie Kirchick on Secret City, The Hidden History of Gay Washington

Jamie Kirchick joins The Gay Man's Life Coach Podcast to talk about his new book, Secret City, The Hidden History of Gay Washington.

Whether you agree with Jamie or not, the historical context for gay men in the United States is an opportunity for great self-compassion and insight. As we become examples of what's possible in this 4th evolution of gay manhood, understanding where we come from helps us build the future.

Being gay was only removed as a mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association less than 50 years ago. 30 years ago, 1 in 10 gay men died from AIDS. Being gay was only decriminalized in the U.S. 20 years ago. Being gay and legally allowed to marry only became possible 7 years ago.

High-achieving gay men have for long been performing in the highest echelons of achievement and power, demonstrating both a singular resourcefulness and tenacity combined with great dramatic tragedy.

DC as Jamie put it, was a magnet for gay people with a "best little boy in the world" complex. It also chewed them up and spit them out.

Over-performers, perfectionists, externally validated, and yet carrying this shameful, often lethal secret.
