The Her Retirement Podcast - Episode 12: Family & Retirement – The Elephant in the Room

Episode 12: Family & Retirement – The Elephant in the Room

07/21/21 • 40 min

The Her Retirement Podcast

For most, family makes life – and life in retirement - rich and more enjoyable. But family can also complicate retirement. Retirement planning has traditionally centered on the needs of an individual or a couple. In the podcast I’ll be revealing some impacts that today’s family complexities and financial interdependencies have on retirement and talk about how pre-retirees and retires can better, plan, communicate, and collaborate with family to better balance family needs with their own long term retirement security. There are three converging trends that were identified in a Merrill Lynch and Age Wage survey that I’ll be referencing during the podcast. 1) Parenthood Doesn’t Retire; 2) Extended Lives. Extended Needs; and 3) Stretched and Stressed.
