The Gutsy Podcast | Mindset, Personal Development & Entrepreneurship for Women

We tend to put the people that we admire the most, the business owners that we look up to, the role models that we strive to be, and we put them on this pedestal that feels so out of our reach that we can't possibly ever achieve their level. What we often don't realize, though, is that the only difference between what you're doing and what the people that you're admiring are doing is that they have chosen the necessary means and put in the grit behind whatever it has taken to achieve that goal.
Now, I'm not saying that you're not busting your ass, too, right? Because we all have our own ways. But if you're admiring people that have six packs and you keep thinking to yourself, "Oh, I wish I could have a six-pack. I wish I could have that," but you're not doing anything to get to that, the only difference between you and them is that they have chosen to put their health first. They have chosen to work out more. They have chosen to change their lifestyle habits. And you're also seeing an end result. You most likely are at a different part of your journey than what they are, so those things are absolutely obtainable. That six-pack is obtainable. You're just at a different part of your journey than they are.
This week, I want you to take your power back by choosing to be the person that you've convinced yourself that you can't be. Let me say that one more time: I want you to choose to be the person that you have convinced yourself that you can't be. This is not becoming someone that you look up to, but becoming your own version of what you find successful or admiring about this person. This person could very well be a future version of yourself that you can see in your mind, but feel like you can't obtain.

23: Your Health is Connected to Your Business

Ah the infamous "I don't have time to take care of myself." As business owners, entrepreneurs, wives, husbands, parents, cousins, neighbors—we often are the last person that we take care of. And why is that? Because not caring for ourselves seemingly doesn't affect anyone else. It's not letting anyone else down. The truth of the matter is, by not caring for ourselves we are quietly letting down everything around us.
This week on The Gutsy Podcast, we're going to talk about how the health of your business depends on the health of your mind and your body. It's really challenging to run a successful business and put your all in when your mind and your body are busted as hell. We live in a society where being busy and running ourselves into the ground is glorified. We equate success with having to be busy. And I'm going to put you guys on the stand here and say you guys glorify the shit out of your busy lives.
"Oh, I had this person to go here and I had to drop them off there. And then I had to work until midnight. And I had this dance class there. And I had that violin class here. And then I had to have these three different meetings. Then I was on a conference call until midnight. And, and I didn't even have time to eat today." And we wear that like a motherfucking badge. Like at the end of the day we expect some sort of trophy for being so busy that we couldn't even feed ourselves.
And then we turn it into this glorious role in life that people look up to and think, "Oh my gosh, Amy is so special. She does so much stuff that she can't even feed herself." And then everyone wants to be like Amy because she looks like she has it all together. And she wears nice clothes and her business is operating great and growing. So we assume that to achieve what she has, we have to do all those things along with it.

24: Creating and Maintaining Meaningful Relationships with Bernadette Wagner

The power of relationships is one of the most important resources that we have on this planet. Today on The Gutsy Podcast, we have a fabulous guest and we’re going to really just dig down into the depths of not only connecting and creating meaningful relationships but how that helps you live life to the fullest. We’ll also hit on the health benefits this comes with as well.

TODAY’S GUEST
Today I’m basically talking to a real-life wonder woman, Bernadette Wagner. She’s a speech pathologist, a two-term elected member of the Washington County Board of Education, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Volunteer Washington County, community outreach coordinator of Hospice of Washington County, and, most recently, TV host of Appealing Hope and Health—and let’s not forget, she’s also a wife and a mother of five! This Jack, well, should we say this Jill of many trades is now adding entrepreneur to her list with her Prime Time for Women initiatives.

WHAT IS PRIME TIME FOR WOMEN?
“The mission is to celebrate, connect, and empower women from diverse backgrounds as they explore new possibilities in their second half of life.” When it comes getting older (or reaching a “higher level”), Bernadette takes a refreshing look at what this both could and should mean for women. It provides the opportunity to explore new possibilities and celebrate the past—all whilst living life to its fullest.

WHAT DROVE YOU TO CHOOSE THE ENTREPRENEUR LIFE?
Bernadette has always been interested in not only the health of herself—but of our community’s and how that impacts each individual person. After reading several awesome books and enduring a loss (tune in for the specifics!), her passion for embracing each age began to flourish; leading her to attend Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts in NYC where she and hundreds of other women met to empower their lives.

“It was really fun. I finished the course in June. I gave notice to my employer in July and started doing this full time . . . And we did our first show in February. And, um, that’s sort of what started it. This real belief that women can make a difference in each other’s lives.”
