Today’s PowerbackTM episode is all about your calendar.

There's this unspoken expectation that we have to be available whenever somebody wants us - a client calls or a prospect calls or somebody wants to meet with us and we're just like, ‘Oh, that day is already full but I'll make it work.’

And then inevitably what happens is, you end up overspent for the day!

Overbooking and allowing other people to have control of your calendar is what I like to call a power leak - and it's not serving you nor anyone else.

So today's PowerbackTM lesson is tips and tricks on how to take your PowerbackTM in your calendar:

  1. Block out one day every week where you don’t meet anyone (not virtually nor in-person!)
  2. Schedule meetings using an online calendar like Calendly
  3. Block out the same day every week for recurring tasks (this will help you stay in your zone of genius!)

Just remember, this is your time and you get to make the rules!

The Gutsy Podcast | Mindset, Personal Development & Entrepreneurship for Women - Powerback 37: What Fear Really Means

Powerback 37: What Fear Really Means

The Gutsy Podcast | Mindset, Personal Development & Entrepreneurship for Women

10/03/19 • 6 min

Fear and stress love to pop up at the least convenient hour of the day. I feel like fear loves to pop up the most when you're just on the brink of something. You've put in a lot of time and effort, you can see and feel your future right in front of you. Then fears like, Oh, hey, we haven't talked in a while. Let's sit down and have a really awful conversation.
I also find that fear and stress really love to pop up when things seem to be going out of control, and it's not always that it's something negative — but sometimes it's the number of things you have to balance in your life.
For instance, not long ago, we rebranded our entire company and within two weeks we saw an incredible influx of inquiries. A lot of these were people that had been watching for quite some time and our rebrand sparked something within them. But here's what's showing up because of that: Greatness is great, but too much of a good thing is a challenge no matter what it is. And what we're finding right now is the need to slow down, focus, develop processes, and really get down into the nitty-gritty basics of business.
In all honesty, I've been kind of freaking out like, Can I do this? Can I handle this? Oh my gosh, I asked for all of this. But I don't even know if I have the capacity to handle it myself emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally. Can my team handle it? Am I putting too much on them?
I mean, the conversations I have silently are excruciating sometimes, but that's why I'm talking about it here because I know damn well I am not the only one that does it. When we are faced with a lot of stuff on your plate, good, bad, or in between, it gets overwhelming.
Something I've learned over the years, particularly through business, is the awareness of when this pops up — when I feel like a tornado in a handmade pottery store or when I feel like everything around me is spiraling out of control — that is my cue to say, you know what? I'm freaking out because I don't have all the information and details I need. I am running faster than I can walk and it feels like wet sand is slipping right through my fingers
This week, I want you to take your powerback by looking at everything you've got going on. I'm literally asking you to pause and sit with yourself and make a list. What is going on? When are these items due? What takes priority and precedence over the others? What is needed of you? We typically bypass this entire process because why? It takes time and we're thinking, Gosh, if I don't have enough time to begin with, how on earth am I going to have the time to sit down and figure it all out?
By giving yourself the time to stop, breathe, and really look at everything, (most of the time) you'll find it's actually not quite as overwhelming as it seems.
So I challenge you to take 15 or 20 minutes of silence with yourself, grab a notebook, calendar, spreadsheet, etc. and take a look at the next few weeks of your life: What is stressing you out? What do you need to know to be at ease? How can you help yourself to achieve things more efficiently and less stressfully?

So many times, we want to show up in our lives and in our businesses but we fear what other people might think and say about us.

This causes you to stay small and gives you perceived safety, but ultimately it's pulling you further and further away from your calling.

In this Gutsy Podcast Exclusive, we're talking to Sean Hunter, also known as #pelotonhusband, about the effects of negative feedback and how to overcome them.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How Sean dances the line between being a gym teacher, an actor, and studying for his Master’s degree.
  • Why it’s important to listen to that voice telling you, ‘You need to do this’.
  • Advice to aspiring actors, musicians, artists that want to pursue something but feel it’s insanely out of reach.
  • How the pandemic has shone clarity on many facets of life.
  • The importance of being in a ‘reflective state’ as well as ‘reframing the mind’ through language.
  • The 2019 Peloton Christmas commercial and the perspective Sean hopes to shift concerning the commercial’s controversy.
  • The effects of negative feedback and how to overcome them.
  • The importance of infusing curiosity into your life.
  • What GUTSY means to Sean.

Sean is a teacher by trade and actor by hobby. He's a K-7 gym teacher and the former #pelotonhusband living in Vancouver. He enjoys acting, teaching, lots of backdoor activities, and staying social with friends.

Sean played the role of the husband in the 2019 holiday commercial for Peloton, an at-home indoor cycling brand. The commercial received millions of views (I’m talking over 5 million views) and at the time raged the world.

Powerback 46: Take Care of the Annoying Task

The Gutsy Podcast | Mindset, Personal Development & Entrepreneurship for Women

play

12/05/19 • 7 min

Have you ever had one of those daunting tasks, that thing you keep thinking about on a regular basis? You know it needs to be done, but you just keep saying, Oh, I'll get to it tomorrow. Oh, I'll get to it the next day. And, inevitably, tomorrow comes. And the next day comes. And the task continues to roll over.
I'm going to take you down a quick story path here, guys, because I have done this recently and I want to bring this to you so that you can prevent this unnecessary stress in your life.
So let's talk Microsoft Word. Out of the blue one day a couple of months ago, when I would open up a new document it wouldn't save as the right size. Like all of a sudden, it was like 8.75 by 10.25 or some ridiculous size. So I would go to the settings and I would choose and ask to make it regular letter size and it wouldn't change. So I had to deal with this abnormally sized document. Well, I can't use that. Right? It doesn't look right. It throws me off. So every time I wanted to have a quote-unquote normal-sized document, I would open up another document, resave it as a new name, delete out all the content, and then use it.
Now, I know this doesn't seem really big or whatever, but I use Word for a lot of different things in my business. I use it when I'm documenting questions and planning for the podcast. I'm writing content for Worx & Co. I use it for communications. I mean, I'm in Word a handful of times a week, but every time I opened it I got irritated and frustrated because why on earth, Word, would you make this ridiculous sized document? I allowed this to go on within myself for I would say probably four to six weeks.
I knew what I had to do. I was working in an outdated Microsoft Word. I couldn't tell you what year it was. I don't know why it didn't auto-update. There are a thousand reasons and questions that I'll never know, but I knew the reason and I knew it was because I went out to one of my coworkers' desks and I realized, Oh, your word and Excel icons look different than mine. They look way more updated. Shit, I know what I have to do to get rid of this problem. But to do so, I knew that I was going to have to take the time to download the programs.
I know that's not hard, but time is really precious. I was going to have to download the programs. I was going to have to re-install them, and then, inevitably (and why I put this off for so long), I had to go find the passwords because I had to log back in. And then the old documents needed converted to the new documents. And all these things started happening and I was like, see, this is why I didn't want to deal with this. And then I stopped and I thought, well, here's a podcast episode because how many times do we put off doing sometimes the smallest task because of the larger things that come along with it?
It wasn't about downloading it, it wasn't about putting in the password, it was the combination. And honestly, it was the time to stop, deal with the issue, and do what I needed to do to alleviate the initial challenge that I started from in the beginning. It takes more time and more effort to put into thinking about why and how you can't do what you need to do than it is to just do the damn thing to begin with. So this week I want you to take your power back by taking care of the annoying thing that you know you just don't want to deal with, but also know your life is going to be a lot easier and a lot more streamlined if you just block out the time to

I have spent well over a hundred hours this year creating content to deliver these podcasts to you every week. Most of them are based off personal experiences; others are stories brought by other really incredible human beings that have learned something along their journey and want to share that with the world. Over the last few months (particularly the last few weeks) the same thing keeps coming up. So I had to create an episode around this, and it's we teach what we most need to learn.
This got me really thinking. I'm sharing all these messages, I talk a lot about money, abundance, mindset, goals, how to handle stress — and it stops me in my tracks when I hear this quote cause I'm thinking, oh shit, maybe I still have a whole lot to learn about these items?
And you know what? That's not wrong. I'm not here to claim that I have all the answers to everything, but I love sharing things with you guys that hit home for me because I know if I'm going through it — it's probably also going through your minds as well.
Think about the messages you're constantly putting out to your friends or colleagues, what you're speaking about, what you're teaching about in your business. This week, I want you to take your power back by being intentional about thinking and hearing the things you are advising other people on. What messages continually pop up for you? What advice do people typically come to you for? And the not-so fan favorite, what things are people doing that either annoy you or you find yourself continually critiquing and wanting to give advice on?
Look, I am all about teaching and guiding people how to stand in their light and go after what they are called to do and following their gut instincts and really just stepping into who they are as a human being. Yet, that is also one of the most challenging parts of who I am. It's easy to give advice, right? And it's a whole other thing to take it yourself.
Growth happens when you're willing to be a little bit vulnerable, sometimes a lot a bit vulnerable, and being willing to open yourself up to receiving new information, trying new things, doing something in a new way. So this week, I want you to really watch yourself, observe yourself, and say, What am I most teaching? What am I willing to learn because of that?
The beautiful thing is we are all teaching and learning simultaneously. You have way more power than you even realize. This is just another beautiful way for you to lean into it.

07/30/19 • 76 min

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself a few months ago. Laying on the couch, drinking wine, and scrolling through Facebook. Then a sponsored post crossed my path—one that led me to enroll in Kate Blake’s 8-week program, resulting in major breakthroughs and the challenge to liberate my negative beliefs by wearing them loud and proud on a t-shirt.
And because I work with insanely supportive, intuitive women, they accepted the challenge with me.
5 gutsy days, 4 bold women, and 20 liberating shirts. Together, we created and embraced "Liberation Week," to take a stand against the negative self-beliefs we have clung to for so long.
· “I’m worthless.”

· “I’m broken.”

· “I’m unremarkable.”

· “I’m too much.”
Each day, for five days, we wore a shirt with handpicked statements that revealed a lie we have convinced ourselves is the truth. From client meetings to grabbing lunch—one by one, we took back the reigns to our own stories in order to rewrite them as they should be.
The results? Life-changing. We cried. We yelled. We talked about things that have been locked in the vaults of our minds for far too long. And one of the most fascinating parts? Watching other people open up about their insecurities because we created a safe container for them to do so.
This week on The Gutsy Podcast, I have three very special guests—my Worx girls. We’re laying it all on the table:
· How we identified our core negative beliefs

· Where we had our shirts made

· How we felt

· What shifted

· How we’re different
This episode is deep, impactful, and raw. I invite you to enter a safe space with us and give yourself the gift of self-awareness of your own negative self-beliefs so that you, too, can liberate.

“I dare you to get to know who YOU are outside of your roles and responsibilities. You are your own person first.”
I recently put up a Facebook post with these words. And boy, did that get the comment section lit up. A lot of people were saying “Yes, absolutely. It took me a long time to discover this, but I'm here.” Quickly followed with “I can't. I have too many children. I have too many responsibilities. Life is too demanding.”
So, on today's Powerback® episode, we're going to break that down a little further. In fact, if I asked you to tell me who you are without describing your title, roles, or responsibilities, what would you say? We’ll go through:

  • I’m challenging you not to settle
  • You are your own person first and you matter
  • Cut the bullshit attachment to your roles and responsibilities
  • Make the time
  • Be realistic with yourself and reframe what's possible
  • Get to know yourself again
