My, oh my, was 2001 a different time, and did we love it or what? That’s right gory goats, we’re covering John Dahl’s road-trip black horror-thriller, JOY RIDE, and we’re here to remind you that it still slaps and it slaps hard! It’s got comedy, thrills, double the “schmazz” (that’s what Alex calls man-butt), tense cornfield chase scenes, suspense, dirty motels, and prank phone calls that would make Ghostface smile. Tune in now as we talk all of the above, as well as our own experiences with troubled sibs, what it was like to be alive during the “prehistoric internet” era, and even... jail? *gasp* Episode 39 delivers! We'd like to consider Episode 38 our "Summer Blockbuster" film, and for the following reasons:

c) it's not TWISTERS

Everyone tune in now as we slash up and bleed out our first natural disaster flick - and a collective fav, as it turns out - DANTE'S PEAK (1997), directed by Roger Donaldson and co-starring Linda Hamilton (and before the haters come for us, we're aware AND ashamed that we completely skipped over the fact that she starred in Children of the Corn). We dish on all things volcanoes, growing up in the PNW, shitty parenting, Linda's divorce from James Cameron, and really, whether or not this is actually a horror movie. We mean... just because it's MOSTLY an action movie doesn't mean it isn't posing as a diet slasher...
Spoiler: we think it kinda is.

We close out our random but exciting “Blockbuster Summer” theme with not only a Spielberg film, but a Tom Cruise vehicle to boot — 2005’s WAR OF THE WORLDS, a movie where tripod aliens erupt from the earth after being sent down from lightning bolts and then decimate people with their laser blasts so they can steal their clothes and live off their blood. Can we get any gayer than this?!

And don’t you worry, gory babies! We also give a few moments of praise to Hunter Schafer’s nutter-butter summer slasher flick CUCKOO (it’s good), as well as spend some time talking about a certain lil gory baby’s time on a certain lil movie set a certain lil time ago... (Hint: It was Stanley and the movie was this one.)
