Turns out Scream...one of the most influential, genre game changing slasher films of the 90s...was itself influenced by real life horrors. When Danny Rolling rolled into the town of Gainesville, FL in 1990, this drifter brought with him a plan to terrify a college community...in a heinously violent way. What he did over the course of four days that summer, haunted residents nationwide. From parents, to students... to Kevin Williamson, the writer of Scary Movie, which would eventually be known as Scream.
