In this week's golf psychology session, mental game of golf expert and author of The Mental Game of Golf, Dr. Cohn, responds to a question from Tom.
Tom tends to jerk himself out of the zone when he is playing well.
Here's what he had to say about his game:
"I'll play incredible for a few holes and then i'll think about how great im playing and what would it feel like to win... BAM! A double or a triple bogey. Then the process repeats... Most recently in my club championship, I went up 3 after 6 against my arch rival and started thinking, 'I've got him! I'm good enough,' and BAM! Again I lost my focus; I rolled off 3 bogeys in a row. May the turn even and he finally won 2 up with 1 to play. What's going on with this? "

Does your putting hold you back from playing your best in tournaments ?
In this week's golf psychology session, mental game of golf expert and author of The Mental Game of Golf, Dr. Cohn, responds to a question from Connor who had this to say about his game:
I played in my State Am the other week and had the worst putting rounds of my life. I was not nervous at all and hit the ball really well. Typically, I'm a good putter but for some reason I was lost on the greens. I had a couple of 4 putts through 54 holes which hasn't happened to me ever. Usually in AM tournaments my putting is the one thing that causes me issues. Feel free to talk about it on the podcast!

How to Stop Overthinking During Your Swing
The Golf Psychology Podcast
01/20/19 • 5 min
Do you get confused as to the number of swing thoughts you should have over the ball or whether you should just be focused on a target?
In this week's golf psychology session, mental game of golf expert and author of The Mental Game of Golf, Dr. Cohn, responds to a question from Andy who had this to say about his game:
"I've been golfing for 50 years and I never felt comfortable with my wedge game. But after a lesson, my confidence boomed. I now have three things to think about, one on the back swing and two on the down swing. But recently I attended a golf seminar about simply picking a target and not having any swing thoughts. My questions is what if i was to just think about the target when hitting a wedge? What kind of a swing would that produce? Would it be my wedge swing Ive had for 50 years or the new swing I've only practiced for six months. I feel like I need to have all three of these points in my mind to make the move but I cant do that and think of a target as well. I'd be very interested in your thoughts..."
